Although many people think Badgley Mischka is one person with one mouthful of a name, it’s really the partnership of Mark Badgley (born 1961 in East St. Louis, Mo.) and James Mischka (born 1960 in Burlington, Wisc.).
Badgley and Mischka have been hailed as one of the Top 10 American Designers by Vogue magazine.
About the Brand:
The design duo met in the 1980s while studying fashion at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York City. After receiving invaluable training as design assistants - Badgley at Jackie Rodgers and Donna Karan, and Mischka at Yves St. Laurent and Willi Smith - they founded their own line of women's evening wear in 1988.
The first few years were a little rocky, but Badgley and Mischka finally caught their big break when German fashion house Escada began financially backing them in 1992. Their support helped propel the brand into the spotlight and become a household name.
Badgley Mischka has always specialized in evening wear that pays homage 1940s Hollywood glamour, but is made for a younger, couture clientele. Their evening wear and accessories are stylishly glamorous, yet extremely easy to wear.
Their design aesthetic has made their pieces the go-to gowns for the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes and other prestigious Hollywood award ceremonies. Their dresses have been worn by the likes of Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sara Jessica Parker, Julia Roberts and Kate Winslet.
Within a few years Badgley Mischka decided to grow their burgeoning brand by launching a bridal collection in 1996, followed by a footwear line in 1999.
Badgley Mischka's simple, streamlined and sumptuous aesthetic translates perfectly into their bridal line. Like all of their designs, pieces from the bridal line are made with only the finest fabrics and highest-quality craftsmanship. Though their style is understated, designs are always constructed to include interesting elements, whether it's a figure-flattering silhouette or luxe, intricate beading.
