Allswell Home launched in 2018 with the goal of creating a line of high-quality, luxurious bedding for below-average prices. Since then, the company has developed a cult following for the comfort and quality of its mattresses and sheets. If you’re still losing sleep over whether to purchase the Allswell Organic Garment Wash Percale Sheet Set, read our detailed verdict to determine if the material, texture, thread count, and price make these sheets an ideal purchase for you.

Material: Smooth and durable

Allswell’s Organic Garment Wash Percale Sheet Set is made in India from sturdy yet soft materials. It is crafted from 100 percent organic cotton with 300-thread count percale weave and subtle luxury detailing. It has deep pockets that fit mattresses up to 17 inches, and a flex fitted sheet.

This set is available in twin, full, queen, and king sizes and includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and pillowcases (the twin set includes one pillowcase, while all other sizes include two pillowcases.) It can be purchased in five colors (white, light grey, ice blue, rose, and indigo), each one a toned-down, neutral hue that will complement any design style or color scheme. We tested the white king size sheet set. This set was very wrinkled upon opening, something we hoped would be remedied by laundering the sheets.

Their wrinkled appearance aside, the sheets have a chic, luxe look that brought effortless style to our all-white bedding. At first glance, this product might seem like just another set of white sheets. But if you look closely, you will notice the subtle, embroidered flange detailing on both the pillowcases and the flat sheet, which really elevates the style.

Texture: Crisp and cool

When we opened the package, we immediately noticed the strong, high-quality feel of the fabric. We were, however, surprised to find that the sheets initially did not feel very soft, especially compared to the sateen cotton sheets we usually sleep on. That’s because percale is a tightly woven fabric that’s known for its crisp, matte finish and hotel-like feel. Cool to the touch, percale is very breathable and ideal for all seasons, especially the hot summer months. It’s also perfect for those who tend to sleep hot. Percale texture is sometimes compared to a dress shirt.

Because of their tight, even weave, these sheets are very smooth compared to other cotton sheets, though not as soft as sateen cotton sheets. Impressively, slipping between these sheets really does make you feel like you’re in a 5-star hotel. Of course, that also makes it harder to get out of bed in the morning, but we think it’s worth it!

Thread Count: Perfect for percale

When it comes to buying bedsheets, it’s important to remember that thread count isn’t everything. Sheets made of high-quality fiber with a lower thread count will feel softer and hold up to laundering better than sheets of low-quality fiber with a higher thread count.

Impressively, slipping between these sheets really does make you feel like you’re in a 5-star hotel.

Percale is an upscale plain weave that is known for its longevity, so you can feel good about investing in these Allswell sheets. This set also has a 300-thread count, which is in the ideal range for a light percale weave. While we don’t think the higher thread count actually makes these sheets softer, we do think it adds to the set’s overall quality and durability.

Washing: Softer with every wash

This sheet set is garment washed for ultimate comfort and will only become softer with laundering. Lucky for us, the sheets are machine-washable at a temperature of 40 F. They should be washed with like colors, using a non-bleach detergent, and tumble dried on a low setting. You should avoid dry-cleaning the sheets because this can cause the material to deteriorate more quickly.

We were pleased to find that not only did this sheet set hold up after three washes, the texture really did become softer with each wash. If you’re someone with very sensitive skin, these percale sheets may not be the most comfortable at first due to the crispness of the texture. However, if you wash the sheets a couple of times, you will really be able to feel the difference. Another good thing about percale is that it does not shed lint or pill after laundering, which adds to its longevity.

After the first wash, we found that the sheets were still very wrinkled, a quality that we’ve learned is characteristic of percale. You may be surprised to hear that some shoppers actually like the wrinkled look! If you’re not one of them, you can iron the sheets to emphasize their crispness and limit wrinkles. This will also make the sheets look and feel even more luxurious, but it’s not necessary for a good night’s sleep.

Price: Good bang for your buck

One of the perks of percale is its reasonable price point. In this case, the well-regarded weave brings down the overall cost of this sheet set in comparison with other organic cotton sheets. We think this is a high-value option for any shopper, offering a luxurious look and feel for less.

Allswell Organic Percale Sheet Set vs. Brooklinen Classic Core Sheet Set

Another popular luxury bedding start-up, Brooklinen first achieved cult status for its sheets. The company’s Classic Core Sheet Set (view on Brooklinen) is comparable to Allswell’s Organic Percale Sheet Set, with a few small differences. The first is price: Brooklinen’s king sheet set comes in at $149, compared with Allswell’s $112. The Brooklinen set also has a slightly lower thread count than the Allswell set (270 vs. 300). While both products feature a crisp percale weave, Allswell’s sheets are made of organic cotton, while Brooklinen’s are made of long-staple cotton, another quality fabric that is known to fray less, pill less, wrinkle less, and even fade less. The Brooklinen set comes in nine essentials colors and six limited edition colors, a far wider variety than that offered by Allswell.

Final Verdict

Go for it!

This high-quality, lightweight sheet set is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to bring a little hotel luxury home.
