I like to say that there is a fine line between being an avid reader and an avid book collector and, in recent years, I’ve transitioned into being the latter. My apartment is full of books, most of which I haven’t read, and I'm a big fan of organizing my books by category. Before this shelf, my desk was just a place to do schoolwork and it didn't have any structure or flair to it, it was just a simple white desk with a rather ugly-looking book stack in one corner and nothing else on it. That's where this shelf comes in: this product allowed me to keep all my motivational books in sight. I needed something to add visual interest and make my desk look more complete, like something someone would actually want to sit at for a couple of hours a day.

Hossejoy Wood Adjustable Desktop Storage Organizer

Amazon

I bought this shelf on Amazon a few years ago and it’s one of the simplest things I’ve ever had to set up. I’d say building it only took about 30 minutes maximum—it's really not a complicated storage accessory.

This shelf allowed me to put my books on display, take advantage of some oh-so-crucial vertical space in my bedroom, and gave me a focal point to decorate my desk around. This desktop organizer provided some much-needed structure and was a simple, chic way to put my books on display.

Simplicity is the name of the game with this shelf, it's a simple and adorable place to house my self-help books, motivational pieces of literature, as well as a few of my never-ending stationery collections—my leather-bound notebooks have to be on display.

My favorite thing about this shelf is that you can set it up in five different ways (displayed on the Amazon listing) based on your preference and how much shelf space you need. While I've played around with all 5 configurations over the past few years, I normally stick with the second configuration because I get the most shelf space that way.

I'm a big fan of affordable storage solutions and the price point for this shelf was hard to ignore. I initially wasn't sure if this product would be something I held onto long-term—I bought it early in the pandemic and right before my senior year of college started so I was dealing with a lot of personal style changes at the time—so the affordable price point made trying this product a lot easier.

I 100% love this purchase, it's made working at my desk all the more enjoyable. Nearly three years later, the shelf looks just as good as it did when I first received the package. Through my constant changes of the shelf's shape, constant changes of the layout of my books on it, and even through testing its weight limit by housing some college textbooks on it, this shelf has held up fantastically. Even if you don't have a desk, this shelf is narrow enough to use on other surfaces like your kitchen counters and vanities—the possibilities are endless.
