    Fairytale Town in Sacramento

    Grandparents are admitted free with a grandchild to this whimsical park with play sets based on nursery rhymes and fairy tales. A favorite attraction is the Crooked Mile, a slide that's a total of an eighth of a mile long. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Flagler Museum Grandparents Day

    Henry Flagler's Gilded Age estate, now open as a museum, is hosting a special tour followed by activities such as creating a family tree and making a scrapbook page. National Geographic calls the Flagler "an absolute must-see." Special activities are included with regular admission fee. Hours are 12-5 p.m.

    Located on Philadelphia's Independence Mall, the NMAJH offers Second Sunday Family Corner on Grandparents Day. Lasting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event will provide a chance for children to learn about history, hear stories about grandparents and participate in craft activities. Older grandchildren will appreciate the museum's visually stunning architecture and varied collections and exhibitions.

    zoo outings are a great way to celebrate Grandparents Day

    Grandparents get free admission with or without grandchildren at the Dickerson Park Zoo. Hours on that date are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's a small zoo, so grandparents won't be too worn out at the end of the day. The grandchildren will enjoy the petting zoo, the train ride, the peacocks that wander the grounds and the adjacent playground.

    Toledo Zoo, Toledo, Ohio

    The Toledo Zoo is offering free admission on Grandparents Day 2016 for all grandparents who visit with at least one grandchild. The zoo, which frequently appears on lists of best zoos in the U.S., has new penguin and flamingo exhibits. Grandparents Day hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The zoo also offers Senior Discovery Days during September and October, with free admission on Tuesdays.

    Grandparents will receive free admission when accompanied by a grandchild. They will also be able to ride free on the tram. The zoo contains over 400 species arranged in seven habitats, including a state-of-the-art aquarium.

    Grandparents will receive half-price admission when accompanied by a grandchild. Located in Pocatello, the zoo specializes in animals indigenous to the area. It features a world-class grizzly exhibit. The zoo also houses and cares for many orphaned and injured animals.

    Grandparents and grandchildren will enjoy learning about nature during the Oak and Acorns Grandparents Day Hike. The hour-long adventure includes a walk in the woods and a craft activity. The venue for this event is the beautiful Lyman Woods Nature Center. On other days, visitors can check out Adventure Packs consisting of items such as bug boxes and magnifying glasses.
