The world of home decor is vast, and we’re constantly amazed by the designers, creators, and creatives who cross our paths. In an effort to learn more about the innovative eyes behind the scenes, we’ve launched a series that explores the sanity-saving tools, products, and services that keep our favorite designers and decorators focused on the job at hand. Welcome to Tools of the Trade.
Interior designer, creative director, and founder of Sire Design Eilyn Jimenez is used to juggling a lot of projects at once. When we asked her how she keeps everything straight, it was no surprise to learn that Jimenez—and the rest of the team at Sire Design—has an app for that.
What item made your work life easier this week/month/lately?
Eilyn Jimenez: The Sire Design team and I love the Todoist app for project management. We use it every day!
EJ: Not only does this allow me to keep a personal to-list for tasks, but the app allows me to manage my team and keep tabs on each project in real time. When it comes to our design projects, there are so many moving parts. With Todoist, we can see the status of everything in one easy glance and I know exactly who is tackling each aspect.
Where/how do you use this item most?
EJ: Everywhere and all the time. On-site, I can check on the progress of single tasks and outline the next steps. At the office, I can see all my to-do’s and timelines to help manage and prioritize.
How did you discover this item?
EJ: A dear friend and design colleague introduced the app to me when we were planning my birthday trip. I instantly saw its potential for my team.
Will you use this item in the future?
EJ: Undoubtedly! It has been so helpful.
How has this item made your job easier?
EJ: Having an organized platform accessible to the entire team eases a lot of stress. The visibility allows me to track progress every step of the way and keeps the process efficient.
How might someone not in your line of work benefit from this item?
EJ: In general, a task manager can help you stay organized and accountable, keeping you from getting overwhelmed. This is beneficial in any field, and even in our personal lives!
What, if anything, would you change about this item?
EJ: Only for it to be free so it can be accessible to everyone! There is a simple, free version that works well for personal use and smaller project management—Pro and Business versions are paid.
Are there any care/use tips someone considering this item should know about?
EJ: The key to success with any task manager is to keep it up to date. You will find me making updates and creating new tasks throughout the day! It is imperative to hold your team accountable to ensure nothing gets lost in the shuffle.
