The Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe is among the coziest, plushest robes we’ve ever worn. It’s not as lightweight or breathable as a silk or nylon robe, but it’s easy to wash, durable, and extremely comfortable.

We purchased the Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe so our expert reviewer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

Whether you live in a cold-weather climate and need a reliable source of wearable warmth or you simply take your coziness seriously, you should add the Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe to your wishlist. Made of patented microfiber material, this robe is uniquely cushy (think memory foam in garment form) but its shawl collar, tie belt, and relaxed fit make it much more stylish than the throw blanket you’ve been wrapped up in. Yes, it’s more expensive than other robes on the market, but we think it earns its keep. Read on for our full review.

Material: Fuzzy, warm, and stylish

The Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe is made of a machine-washable, 100-percent polyester microfiber material that won’t shrink, pill, or tear. That means this robe is thick and cushy, with a slight stretch and satisfying heft. Its fuzzy texture lands somewhere between velour and sherpa, and it’s as pleasing aesthetically as it is to the touch. Its shawl collar keeps your neck comfortable, and you can tie its attached waist belt to really lock in the warmth. The robe gets bonus points for its roomy pockets, too, which basically feel like you’re slipping on a pair of cashmere-lined mittens.

Although it’s categorized as “loungewear,” this robe is actually stylish enough to wear out of the house…we’ve thrown it over leggings to go to a yoga class, and over jeans and a T-shirt to run errands.

The Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe comes in eight earth-toned colorways that’ll coordinate with most palettes in your wardrobe. And although it’s categorized as “loungewear,” this robe is actually stylish enough to wear out of the house. Just treat it like an elevated, boho-lite, oversized cardigan—we’ve thrown it over leggings to go to a yoga class, and over jeans and a T-shirt to run errands.

One thing to keep in mind is that this robe tends to run large. It comes in sizes one through four—which accommodates builds 100 to 220+ pounds, respectively—but the manufacturer states that the material may stretch over time. The roomy, relaxed fit makes this piece suitable for both men and women, but if you’re petite, you may feel a little swallowed by all the fabric. In particular, we found the sleeves too long; they got in the way when we typed and cooked. The hem reached our ankles, which is a little longer than we typically like in a robe, and the belt dragged on the floor. However, the fit shouldn’t be much of a problem if you plan on using this robe as we mostly have: as a glorified throw blanket to cozy up with on the couch.

Texture: Patented microfiber designed for comfort

The first thing you’ll notice about this robe is its ultra-soft, spongy texture, which is unlike anything we’ve seen or felt before. That’s because CozyChic is a patented knitwear material manufactured expressly for Barefoot Dreams, a line that also carries blankets, throws, and clothing for babies and dogs—so you can imagine how seriously they take their softness.

We found the sleeves too long; they got in the way when we typed and cooked.

CozyChic’s signature cushiness makes this robe cozy and pleasantly hefty, but its slight stretch lends the garment a bit of fluidity: You’ll be able to move around freely in it, without feeling like you’re carting a heavy wool blanket around on your shoulders.

Washing: Easy to wash, but beware of slight stretch

After its super-snuggly feel, Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe’s major selling point is that it’s easy to care for. The robe’s care instructions say that CozyChic can be washed in the machine, tumble dried on low, and that it won’t shrink or pill after washing. When it came time to wash ours, we threw the robe in on our machine’s delicates and knits cycle, but we opted to hang it dry it just to be safe.

The robe didn’t take on too much water, which meant it was totally dry in just a couple of hours; and just as the instructions claimed, the robe’s material maintained its signature fuzziness, with no pillage or shrinkage to speak of. However, we did notice that the robe had stretched ever so slightly, most notably in the sleeves, which now reached below our fingertips.

The next time we washed the robe, we tried a different method and threw it in the dryer on our machine’s delicates setting. We were happy to find that the robe maintained its softness yet again, and that it hadn’t stretched much more than it did the first time around.

Price: Great value for a well-made garment

The Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe retails for $127. Considering its sturdy construction (you’d have to take to this robe with a pair of scissors to get it to tear), irresistible softness, and easy care, we’d say that’s a reasonable price point.

Less expensive robes, including those from Natori and Anthropologie, tend to be constructed of lighter-weight materials like rayon and spandex. These materials might require hand-washing, and they likely won’t last as long as the Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe. So all told, you’re getting great bang for your buck.

Competition: Similar styles, different price points

UGG Miranda Robe: Like the Barefoot Dreams CozyChic robe, the $130 UGG Miranda Robe is made of a cushy material—this one is a plush fleece that comes in four rich, jewel-toned colors—and it’s outfitted with a comfy shawl collar, sash tie belt, and hip pockets. The UGG Miranda Robe also has a hood for added warmth, though, and its shorter hemline may be a better fit for petite wearers.

L.L. Bean Winter Fleece Robe: This $80 L.L. Bean Fleece Robe has a relaxed fit like the Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe, with a long hem designed to hit right at your ankles. L.L. Bean offers more sizes than Barefoot Dreams, with the option of choosing Regular or Petite sizes. You’ll only be able to choose between two colors (Arctic blue and bright navy), but you have the option to add a monogram for added personalization.

Final Verdict

Invest in go-to loungewear.

If you’re looking for a cushy robe that doesn’t sacrifice style for warmth, the Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe will be your go-to throughout the winter (and while you’re blasting the A/C in warmer months). Its no-shrink, no-pill, virtually unrippable fabric will last you for seasons to come, as long as you’re okay with a little wiggle room.
