This model has been discontinued. See my list of the Best Gas Grills Between $500USD and $1,000 for comparable models.

Beefeater is an Australian company who has been making great gas grills for many years. This grill is now made in China. The Discovery series grills have good heating abilities in and Australian style grill, meaning that the distance from the burners to the cooking grid is very small, about 3 inches.

This gives this grill high intense heat that is great for direct grilling with the lid up. For people used to American style grills, you might find the internal space small.

Guide Review - Beefeater Discovery Plus 3-Burner Gas Grill

For many years Beefeater grills have been amongst the most popular of the Australian style gas grills.

Australian style grills generate intense heat because the burners are very close to the cooking grates. The reduced distance means these units are great at direct grilling. In fact many are sold without hoods and used only for direct grilling.

The Discovery Plus line of grills from Beefeater gets a double layer stainless steel hood as its main upgrade from the Discovery line.

This 3-burner unit is very small so if you need the space this isn't the grill for you. However if you want a good grill, well made and don't need great indirect grilling abilities this is a good unit to look at. The 45,000 BTUs are just about right for the size. The flame is 3 inches from the food so you get a high intense heat that is perfect for direct grilling with the lid up. The heavy porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates will hold a lot of heat and give you good searing power. The low hood isn't going to give you space for beer can chicken but there is enough room for most foods you'll want to grill.

While this grill and all the units in the Discovery line are made in China under contract with Beefeater this unit is very well made and quite solid feeling. If you are interested in one of these grills they go all the way to five burners, 75,000 BTUs and 714 square inches of primary grilling space.
