Best Overall: Nike Training Club

Nike Training Club

Nike Training Club

Why We Chose It: We chose Nike Training Club as best overall due to its free, well-designed app, variety of different workouts, and ability to follow trainer-led programs.

What We Like
  • Wide range of workouts

  • High-quality app

  • Easy to follow programs

What We Don’t Like
  • No way to schedule workouts

  • No calendar for upcoming livestreams

  • Search is hard to filter

Nike Training Club is an online fitness app designed to provide you with a variety of workout classes to do at home. There are classes such as yoga, weightlifting, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and core workouts. You can choose to do one-off workouts or follow a program that is structured and designed to show you what to do each week. The app is easy to use, classes are fun and motivating, and the app gives you daily reminders to get your workout in.

The app is free to download on iOS and Android and has close to 200 workouts to choose from. The only thing required to use the app is a Nike membership, which is free. The Nike website states that the app is made for everyone and every body, and all workouts can be done with minimal to no equipment. Their trainer-led programs are four to eight weeks long and are result-oriented, so you can choose to do a program to increase strength, flexibility, or more. They also include others that are not led by a trainer that you can do at your own pace. However, we don't like the fact that there’s no way to schedule workouts in advance or track goals.

The app integrates with the Apple Watch and Apple Music, so you can listen to your playlist while you work out. Overall, Nike Training Club is an excellent choice if you’re looking for workout classes that you can do in your living room from your phone.

Best for Women: Sculpt Society

Sculpt Society

Sculpt Society

Why We Chose It: We chose Sculpt Society as best for women as it includes fun dance cardio and sculpting workouts to help you achieve your fitness goals.

What We Like
  • Workouts are fun and effective

  • Includes 10-week program

  • New workouts added each week

  • 14-day free trial

What We Don’t Like
  • App could be more user-friendly

  • Not as many choices as other apps

Sculpt Society by Megan Roup is an app designed to get you sweaty and toned through dance cardio and sculpting workouts. Workouts range between 5 and 50 minutes and the 10-week program makes it easy to follow and stick to your routine. Workouts are low impact, use minimal equipment, and are set to music. There are many workouts designed to target specific muscle groups such as core or legs and glutes. Reviews state that new workouts are being added each week, but some people may feel limited by the workout choices.

A 14-day free trial is offered, after which a subscription costs $19.99 per month or $119 per year, which is reasonably priced compared to in-person workout classes. You can choose to follow the weekly program or select specific workouts, depending on how much time you have. Stream the workouts through the website or download The Sculpt Society App to use on your iOS or Android device.

Overall, The Sculpt Society is a great option for those who want low-impact workout classes with minimal equipment and have a dance component to keep them fun.

It provides live and on-demand boxing classes that can be done at home with minimal equipment. There are classes designed for people new to boxing and high-intensity options like cardio kickboxing to get your heart rate up.

Best for Good Music: Peloton

What We Like
  • Great music

  • Engaging instructors

  • Many classes to choose from

What We Don’t Like
  • Many classes require a bike or treadmill

  • Limited classes over 30 minutes

Peloton has become increasingly popular for home workouts due to its interactive home workout bikes and treadmills. They now include a variety of strength workouts, bodyweight workouts, and yoga classes that you can do in the comfort of your own home. If you enjoy running, there are guided outdoor runs that are designed to help you push your limits. We like that all classes are set to good music and you can choose classes based on your music preferences.

Best for Free Workouts: PopSUGAR

Why we chose it: PopSUGAR has been around since 2010 when YouTube workout videos began gaining popularity. Their library of free workout classes has everything you need to stay fit at home.

What We Like
  • Many videos to choose from

  • Organized into playlists

  • Free

  • Top Trainers

What We Don’t Like
  • Does include ads

  • No accountability

  • Must pay for programs on the PopSUGAR Glow app

PopSUGAR has been known for online workout classes for years. It has classes from some of the top online trainers and offers a variety of different classes so you can always find something to suit your mood. Many of the classes are 30 minutes or less and usually have a theme or focus on a specific area of the body. They are set to music and the instructors are energetic and experienced. You can view the workouts on YouTube from home or anywhere else, and if you wanted more you can always download the PopSUGAR Glow app to subscribe to programs at an additional cost.

We liked that they have some programs laid out for you, such as the two-week low impact barre and yoga program or the 21-day summer shape up challenge. What these free programs are lacking is a way to track your progress and stay accountable, but that is to be expected from a free YouTube program.

Most of the classes include a mix of cardio, strength, stretching, and HIIT. Many workouts require minimal or no equipment and can be done anytime at home. PopSUGAR also has livestream workouts daily on its YouTube channel. Overall, if you are looking for a place to try a variety of free online workout classes with no commitment, PopSUGAR may be for you.

Final Verdict

We found a variety of at-home workouts to help you reach your health goals without leaving the house. There are many options online that cater to different workout preferences, fitness levels, program goals, and music taste. We liked that many options are free to access or offer free trials so you can decide if you like them before you subscribe. Many can be streamed from any device and can be done with minimal equipment in a small space.

Some programs do not provide an easy way to plan your workouts ahead of time and are hard to filter and navigate through classes.
