How We Tested

Our reviewers spent 145 hours testing one of the most popular sheet sets available. To ensure the most thorough feedback possible, our testers put these sheets on their beds and slept on them for weeks on end. We asked our testers to consider the most important features when using these sheets, including their thread count, softness, and durability. We've outlined the key takeaways here so that you, too, know what to look for when shopping.

What to Look for in a Set of Bamboo Sheets

Material Bamboo blends are common in sheets, but the best options are those that are 100 percent bamboo. Look for lyocell bamboo sheets, which are more environmentally friendly and made with nontoxic processes.

Weave The weave directly affects the way the sheets feel. The most common weaves are twill and sateen. Twill is crisper; sateen feels silkier but is more difficult to care for and tends to be pricier.

Thread count Bamboo sheets typically have a thread count somewhere between 250 and 350. Though this may sound lower than some cotton options, bamboo is naturally soft. A 100 percent bamboo sheet with a 250 thread count may feel just as soft as a cotton sheet with a 400 thread count.

Although our testers thought that these sheets weren’t any softer than their jersey or microfiber counterparts, they definitely enjoyed using them. “They’re comfortable enough for sleeping, the fabric isn't flimsy, and they look more expensive than they are,” noted one of our reviewers. Our testers were also pleasantly surprised at a particular design feature: the pillowcases have an envelope-style closure to keep the pillows from sliding out.
