After talking to a number of moms about what they typically get for Mother’s Day, we discovered a major problem with how we honor mothers on this very important holiday. Too many women receive gifts that reflect archaic notions of what their household role is rather than items that speak to their actual interests—the ones beyond doing chores, raising children, or being a wife.
Sure, a blender, a crockpot, and a portable changing table are all useful, but they can be viewed as borderline offensive when given as presents. These items scream: “Make me dinner!” and “Change my diaper!”

The queen of the household deserves to have a sleeping arrangement fit for a queen, too. A silk pillowcase and sleeping mask are a good place to start. Sure the fabric has a lovely sheen, but it does a lot more than simply look pretty on a bed spread. Silk material can provide anti-aging benefits, stop friction-induced hair damage, and keep the hair or skin products she puts on at night from soaking into the bed—letting her skin reap the benefits, not her sheets.

Sometimes we forget mom is human too, and had a life before kids. This gift is a sweet, nostalgic reminder of the years before she took on her parental title. Find photos from when she was in school, at college, or traveling with friends and see if you can find the exact year the photo was taken. These coasters have different frames you can choose from, such as an instant camera picture frame that allow for the year and the location to be printed beneath the photo. She’ll love remembering those times and will probably have quite a few funny stories to share when she’s having her morning coffee or evening glass of wine.

Mom can use an app to manage all of her photos through Ibi and send them to the family members and friends she wants to share with.
