It is no surprise that many people prefer to buy their toys online rather than drive from one toy store to another, since online shopping is convenient and lets you check reviews and compare prices.

Buying toys online can save gift-givers not only money but time and gas by not having to drive to a store and spend time looking for something that might not even be on the shelf.

To sweeten the deal, most sellers offer free or low-cost shipping. So, if you are in the market to buy a toy for a child from the convenience of your home, check out which online shopping sites go easy on the shipping fees.

Amazon is the most popular online shopping website. Consumers can buy almost anything and everything, new or used. Many Amazon shoppers pay for Amazon Prime, a yearly subscription fee that offers buyers many perks, the most well known is free two-day shipping on many of their items. For those who do not have Amazon Prime, you can expect to pay shipping fees for every item purchased. Most people agree that there are many benefits to the subscription, even if you are not a frequent shopper.

Target offers free shipping on orders over $35. If you have a Target Red Card, you can receive free two-day shipping on most items. Another option: You can order online from and ship an item for free to your nearest Target location for pick-up at your convenience.

Walmart offers free two-day shipping on orders $35 or more. If your purchase is less than $35, you will be charged a flat $5.99 fee for shipping. Walmart also has the ship-to-store option as well. Some third-party retailers also sell toys and other household goods through, be mindful that in those cases, there may be additional costs and shipping fees associated with the items that are not bought and sold through Walmart directly.

Zulily is a fun website to browse through. The website offers unique collections of items that include toys, games, gifts, clothes, bedding, and kitchen accessories from well-known retailers at a discounted price. Before you can browse the site, however, you will need to create a Zulily account by sharing your email.

There are some drawbacks with Zulily: Items displayed are usually in limited supply and sell out quickly. Also, items are shipped to Zulily from the brand before being shipped to the consumer, so sometimes it can take weeks to receive a purchased item. Plus, shipping is not free for the first item, but if you get an item and pay standard shipping rates, all other items bought before 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on the second calendar day after the date of initial eligible purchase may qualify for free standard shipping in the continental U.S.

Kmart is another popular retail store nationwide and the store offers free shipping on orders over $49. Some items can be shipped to the store for free pick-up. Make sure to check the fine details, as some items are excluded from free shipping, such as items through third-party sellers, most notably from its parent company, Sears.

Overstock also sells new toys at reasonable prices. They offer coupons to apply a certain percentage off of the total, which can be applied at checkout. Overstock offers standard free shipping every day on U.S. orders over $45 when shipping to the continental 48 states (excluding Hawaii and Alaska). Orders under $45 ship for only $4.95 to most destinations within the contiguous United States.

Fat Brain Toys

Fat Brain Toys has a unique collection of specialty educational learning toys and games for kids of all ages. Fat Brain Toys offers a $3.99 flat rate shipping on inventoried items via UPS Ground in the United States, except for Alaska and Hawaii. If you a member of the military, you can get half-price shipping with all Army Post Office/Fleet Post Office orders.

Kohl's is a department store with a fun toy aisle. Around the holidays, gift-givers often race to Kohl's to buy clothing, housewares, and toys, because of their great sales, where they can spend Kohl's Cash or coupon dollars they have received from prior transactions. Online, Kohl's has a great selection of outdoor toys, bikes, games, pools, and wagons. Kohl's has free standard shipping on purchases over $75 and a free ship-to-store feature, too.

If you are buying gifts during the holidays for family members who live far away or overseas, it can be a challenge and expensive. FishPond gives you access to over 1 million toys, books, homeware, baby items, jewelry, and beauty products with free shipping worldwide.

Toy Wiz

If you know a child who loves new, collectible toys like Funko Pop figures, fidget spinners, Shopkins, baseball cards, and special action figures, Toy Wiz is a great website for collectors and super-fans.

If your special someone is waiting for a release date and wants to be one of the first to own an item through a pre-order sale, Toy Wiz is just the place. Pokemon fans can even find rare individual cards. Toy Wiz also has a buying program for collectors to sell vintage, collectible toys. Shipping fees depend upon the location, but usually, standard shipping costs are $5.99 to receive it in seven to 10 days, while rush shipping is $29 to receive within three to five days. All orders within the United States ship via UPS or the U.S. Postal Service. International delivery is also available.
