An Iconic Motif
The most beautiful homes have a unique story behind them. For this vacation home, the story is of a young couple, the husband from the UK, and the wife American, who were in need of a modern update of their Montauk home, a special space to welcome their first child. The young family worked with Décor Aid, an interior design firm based in Manhattan, that's focused on luxurious, affordable interior design. Working with Master Designer, Alex Caratachea, this East Hampton home was taken from drab and outdated, to a posh, luxurious get-away for a brand new family of three. The inspiration for this project - mid-century modern style, glamour, and high contrast black and white elements. Throughout the interior, walls were painted a bright white, and the trim, painted black. The black and white motif, repeated on the staircase, and doorways, was the starting point for this home's cool and classic style.Continue to 2 of 9 below.

Caratachea paid attention to detail, adding high-style furnishings and accessories to the mix. In the living room, a settee is recovered in vintage Miles Redd fabric. The colorful fabric was discovered by the Décor Aid designer through 1st Dibs, an online hub for antique and modern furnishings. Tufted barrel chairs were reupholstered in a soft gray. And a black and white patchwork rug from ABC Carpet & Home adds a dose of pattern underfoot. The art featured was from the couple's own collection. Pieces by friends that hold sentimental value.Continue to 3 of 9 below.

Open Plan Kitchen
The black and white motif continues in the home's kitchen. Something that the couple was thrilled to see. "l love a black and white motif – it's iconic! When Alex suggested it, we were so excited." From the wife's perspective, “It started off as a true design solution for a home that was being weighed down by lots of moldings and intricate doors and archways.” To keep things light and open, Caratachea gave the cabinets a coat of white paint, and the kitchen island was painted black for a unique contrast.Continue to 5 of 9 below.

Above the bed, a colorful photograph is a whimsical nod to the fact that this is in fact a beach house. “We were careful not to make the house feel themed as a ‘beach house. The beaches and water surround us and the environment speaks for itself, so we wanted to create a cool Bohemian vibe that would complement the magic of Montauk.”Continue to 9 of 9 below.
