There are so many logistics to be figured out for your big day, and wedding transportation can be a particularly tricky one. Figuring out how many cars you'll need, what kind to rent, and for how long of a time period can be totally confusing. Before you go book a stretch limo for a ten hour period, be sure to read our tips for making sure you get the most bang for your buck!

Do You Need Wedding Transportation?

Are your wedding ceremony and reception taking place at the same venue? If so, you may not need wedding transportation. Generally speaking, you'll need a way to get from point A to point B if your wedding is taking place in two locations. So if you're booking two different venues, you'll definitely need to explore some transportation options.

What Kind of Wedding Transportation Is Right for You?

First, you'll want to figure out how many people you want or need to transport. This may include the couple, their parents, grandparents, and their attendants. If your budget is tight, you may ask the bridal party to drive themselves. A classic town car is often less pricey than a chauffeured limousine, and will comfortably seat between three and six people. If you don't need to have transportation for the whole wedding party then perhaps you could opt for something smaller. If you are shuttling your entire guest list from one place to another, such as offering a shuttle service from the hotel with room blocks to the wedding location, you may even want to go bigger by renting a bus!

How Long Do You Need the Services For?

Decide if you want the hired transportation for the entire event, including taking everyone to the ceremony, from the ceremony to reception, and then home after the reception. This would obviously be the most expensive option. If you want to save some money, you could book pickup/drop off service only, so that the driver is not waiting around for the entire event at his normal hourly rate.

Another cost-saving option is to have people drive themselves part of the way with limo transportation for part of the way. Remember that limo companies often have a minimum amount of time, so even if you only hire them for twenty minutes, you may end up paying the same as if you had hired them for three hours.

Make Sure to Consider All Scenarios

Think about who will drive where and in which car, as well as how to get the cars back to their necessary spots and owners. It can definitely be a bit of a puzzle to figure out logistically. A great way to look at all the options is to create a flow chart of some kind to make sure that no one will be stranded without a ride. Additionally, make sure you make copies of everyone's contact information and maps to give to each member of your bridal party so that no one gets lost. A typical scenario might include any of the following.

  • The bride and bridal party transport themselves to the reception site where there is a room for them to change clothes and get prepared. A limo comes to pick them up and delivers them to the ceremony site.
  • Meanwhile, the groomsmen transport themselves to the ceremony site, and the best man gives a ride to the groom.
  • After the ceremony, the limo takes the bride and groom to the reception site, while the groomsmen give rides to the bridesmaids.
  • At the end of the evening, the bride and groom are picked up in a getaway car (decorated by the bridal party), and the bridesmaids and groomsmen all have their cars to drive themselves home.

Before you sign a contract, don’t forget to ask these questions.

  • How old are the limousines?
  • What will the chauffeur wear?
  • Is gratuity included in the price?
  • Is it cheaper to get a package deal?
  • What happens if we need to cancel?
  • Are there any extras included in the price, such as a bottle of champagne, decorations, sun-roof, etc.?

As always, be sure to check around and get quotes and options from different companies to find the option that's best for you. Best of luck with your booking process!
