We purchased the Brooklinen Super-Plush Bath Towels so our reviewer could put it to the test in her home. Keep reading for our full product review.

Looking to upgrade your everyday routine? Swapping your shrunken, threadbare towels for soft, oversized ones is a great place to start. There’s nothing like stepping out of the bath or shower and wrapping yourself in an absorbent towel that’s irresistibly plush. But if you want a luxury set, it’s going to cost you, of course.

Thanks to its direct-to-consumer business model, Brooklinen, a company based in Brooklyn, New York, is known for producing premium home goods at relatively affordable prices. While the brand began with signature sheets, they’ve now expanded to include pillows, towels, comforters, and even loungewear. We tested a two-pack of Brooklinen’s Super-Plush Bath Towels to determine if their material, texture, and absorbency were really worthy of their $69 price tag.

Material: Turkish cotton with durable construction

Turkish cotton is often considered ideal for bath towels thanks to its softness and absorbency, so it’s no surprise that Brooklinen opted for the fabric. The towels are constructed with durable, z-twist construction (in basic terms, each thread is made up of multiple strands) and boast 820 GSM (grams per square meter). For reference, a typical cotton t-shirt is 135 GSM—so Brooklinen isn’t joking with their “Super-Plush” designation.

The towels come in four colors including white, cream, smoke, and graphite; we tested smoke, which is a lovely gray color with a slight bluish tint. While these neutral shades should go with pretty much any bathroom decor (or even with each other, if you like to mix and match), anyone looking for a bold pattern or splash of color might be disappointed with these subdued hues. No matter which color you choose, you’ll find the towels are classically styled with simple piping and a terry texture.

Another important detail for those who try to limit toxins in the home: These linens are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meaning they’re tested by a third-party company to ensure that they don’t contain any toxic or prohibited materials, dyes, or substances.

Texture: Thick with blanket-like softness

Brooklinen’s Super-Plush Bath Towels certainly live up to their name. In fact, wrapping up in one of the brand’s bath towels is almost like cocooning yourself in a blanket, which is great if you’re quick to shiver after jumping out the shower.

For some, these towels may prove ideal when chilly winter weather hits, but they may be too heavy on humid summer days or in sticky climates. The good news for Brooklinen fans who aren’t big on extra fluff is that the company makes Turkish cotton towels in two lesser thicknesses: Classic and Ultralight. Both come in at lower price points, as well.

Brooklinen’s Super-Plush Bath Towels certainly live up to their name.

At 58 x 30 inches, most users won’t have to tug at either end of their towel to prevent a wardrobe malfunction while wearing it. We found the towels were roomy enough to provide decent coverage, top and bottom. If you or an extra-tall loved one is in need of a few more inches, however, the brand’s Super-Plush Bath Sheets measure 65 x 40 inches. If you want to revamp your entire linen closet, you can also pick up matching washcloths, hand towels, and a bath mat while you’re at it.

Absorbency: Adequate performance

When it comes to absorbency, we’d say these towels are satisfactory. They’ll dry you off, but it’s nothing to really write home about.

Our towels took more than 24 hours to air dry on a towel rack.

That said, the thick towels do seem to hold onto moisture longer and in fogged-up bathrooms, the humidity can cling to the fibers so quick that they feel slightly damp before you even use them. We found that after one use, our towels took more than 24 hours to air dry on a towel rack. Luckily, they didn’t pick up any musty odors (even after several days of consecutive use), but if you’re someone who likes their towel to be bone-dry, you’ll want to keep in mind how humid your bathroom gets.

Washing: Supposedly softer with each wash

The washing guidelines are pretty generic; Brooklinen recommends machine washing the towels on warm using color-safe detergent (and with like colors) and then tumble drying on low. The company also suggests against using fabric softeners and bleach and making sure the towels don’t come into contact with benzoyl peroxide (a common skincare ingredient), presumably because it can cause stains.

A few threads did come loose after washing, but it wasn’t anything we were too concerned about.

Brooklinen maintains that their towels are meant to get softer and fluffier with each wash. After laundering them several times over the course of a few weeks, we were happy that the towels’ texture was preserved, though we wouldn’t say it was necessarily improved. Full disclosure: A few threads did come loose after washing, but it wasn’t anything we were too concerned about.

Price: Reasonable for luxury towels

As previously mentioned, Brooklinen’s direct-to-consumer model enables them to cut out the middleman and control costs. At $69 for a set of two bath towels—or about $34.50 each—the price is reasonable when compared to other luxury brands.

Still, we know they’re not cheap. Stocking your linen closet can easily cost you a couple hundred dollars (the Super-Plush Towel Move-In Bundle—which includes four bath towels, four washcloths, two hand towels, and a bath mat—will set you back $199). The cost may be especially tough to validate for young families with stain-prone kids; ruin one of these towels, and it’s going to hurt a bit. But at the end of the day (if your lifestyle permits), they’ll likely prove an economical investment.

Brooklinen Super-Plush Bath Towel vs. Parachute Fouta Stripe Towel

If you’ve researched luxury bath towels, you’ve likely come across Parachute—another direct-to-consumer linen brand. Their fouta stripe bath towel also features soft, absorbent Turkish cotton, but it’s super lightweight. Compared to Brooklinen’s plush line, Parachute Fouta Stripe Towels are thinner and lighter with terry texture on one side and a smooth weave and striped pattern on the other. Parachute’s offering is also OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified and costs $29 a towel—roughly $5.50 less than Brooklinen’s plush towel. The deciding factor here really comes down to your design aesthetic and whether you’re after a light- or heavyweight option.

Final Verdict

Worth the investment.

Consumers looking for a bit of snuggly, post-bath luxury will love Brooklinen’s Super-Plush Bath Towels. Between uses, just make sure you air dry them in a room that’s not too humid.
