This gingerbread recipe includes molasses ginger flour, eggs, cinnamon and buttermilk to make a delectable sweet treat for the holidays or at any time of year. Top this gingerbread with sweetened whipped cream or a dessert sauce.

What You'll Need

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, spoon and sweep
  • 1 teaspoon
  • baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons
  • cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground
  • ginger
  • 1
  • egg, lightly beaten
  • 5 tablespoons
  • dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark molasses
  • 1/2 cup
  • buttermilk 
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or shortening

How to Make It

1.Sift together the flour, salt, soda, and spices.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine beaten egg, sugar, molasses, buttermilk, and melted butter.

3. Add sifted dry ingredients gradually; stirring to blend.

4. Beat until smooth.

5. Turn batter into a greased and floured 8-inch or 9-inch square pan and bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
