Most Starbucks drinks contain caffeine. Find levels of caffeine for Starbucks coffee drinks with this list of caffeine contents for Starbucks' Frappuccinos, espresso drinks and coffee drinks.

It's important to remember that Starbucks has its own system of drink sizes that are totally different from other coffee houses and drink vendors. Their sizes are Short (8 oz), Mini (10 oz), Tall (12 oz), Grande (16 oz), Venti (20 oz), Venti Iced (24 oz) Trenta Iced (31 oz), though not all of the sizes are available for all of the drinks they sell.

Below, you'll find listing for caffeine levels in Starbucks coffee, espresso drinks and Frappuccinos. Caffeine levels of Starbucks tea and hot chocolate are listed separately. All caffeine measurements were collected from the Starbucks website, except where noted.

Caffeine Levels of Starbucks' Coffee Drinks

The Starbucks coffee drink with the least caffeine is the Decaf Pike's Place Roast.

  • Short - 15 mg
  • Tall - 20 mg
  • Grande - 25 mg
  • Venti - 30 mg

Next up is the Starbucks Iced Coffee with Milk.

  • Tall - 90 mg
  • Grande - 125 mg
  • Venti Iced - 170 mg
  • Trenta Iced - 195 mg

Another milky coffee drink, the Caffe Misto, contains slightly more caffeine.

  • Short - 75 mg
  • Tall - 115 mg
  • Grande - 150 mg
  • Venti - 195 mg

Although the Iced Coffee with Milk is fairly low in caffeine, the Iced Coffee is substantially higher in caffeine.

  • Tall - 120 mg
  • Grande - 165 mg
  • Venti Iced - 235 mg
  • Trenta Iced - 285 mg

Starbucks Cold Brew Coffee has different caffeine levels from the rest of the iced coffees:

  • Tall Sweetened - 125 mg; Tall Unsweetened - 150 mg
  • Grande Sweetened - 165 mg; Grande Unsweetened - 200 mg
  • Venti Iced Sweetened - 250 mg; Venti Iced Unsweetened - 300 mg
  • Trenta Iced Sweetened - not listed on Starbucks site (I estimate it at around 270 mg); Trenta Iced Unsweetened - 330 mg

Topping the list with the most caffeine per cup are Starbucks' Bold Pick of the Day, Blonde RoastClover Brewed Coffee and Pike's Place Roast.

Although Starbucks notes that the caffeine levels of these drinks may vary, they are listed on the Starbucks website as:

  • Short - 180 mg
  • Tall - 260 mg
  • Grande - 330 mg
  • Venti - 415 mg

Note: These are the numbers that Starbucks put on their website. However, they may vary quite a bit in real life! One lab test compared the caffeine levels in Starbucks' Breakfast Blend Coffee from one Starbucks outlet, six days in a row. The caffeine levels per 16-ounce ("Grande") cup ranged from 299.5 mg (add a nibble of chocolate and you're reached the recommended daily limit) to a whopping 564.4 mg (practically double the recommended daily limit for caffeine intake). This has to do with variations in the beans, sure, but it probably has more to do with variations in the brewing. Yikes!

Caffeine Levels of Starbucks' Hot Espresso Drinks

Many of Starbucks' espresso drinks are made with a single shot of espresso in their Short and Tall sizes and a double shot of espresso in their Grande and Venti sizes. Unless these contain chocolate or extra coffee, their caffeine levels are:

  • Short or Tall - 75 mg
  • Grande or Venti - 150 mg

Drinks with these caffeine levels include the:

  • Caffe Latte
  • Caramel Flan Latte
  • Cinnamon Dolce Latte
  • Cappuccino
  • Caramel Brulee Latte
  • Caramel Macchiato
  • Eggnog Latte
  • Flavored Lattes
  • Gingerbread Latte
  • Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha
  • Pumpkin Spice Latte
  • Skinny Caramel Macchiato
  • Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte
  • Skinny Flavored Latte
  • Tiramisu Latte
  • White Chocolate Mocha

The iced versions of these drinks (such as the Iced Caramel Macchiato, Iced Tiramisu Latte and the Iced Caffe Mocha) contain 75 mg caffeine in a Tall and 150 mg caffeine in a Grande or a Venti Iced.

Similarly, a "solo" (single-shot) Espresso, Espresso con Panna and Espresso Macchiato all contain 75 mg caffeine, while "doppios" of the same drinks contain 150 mg of caffeine.

A Starbucks Caffe Americano is made with one to four shots of espresso, depending on the size. It contains the following amounts of caffeine:

  • Short - 75 mg
  • Tall - 150 mg
  • Grande - 225 mg
  • Venti - 300 mg

A Starbucks Cocoa Cappuccino contains cocoa, so it has more caffeine:

  • Short - 80 mg
  • Tall - 90 mg
  • Grande - 170 mg
  • Venti - 175 mg

Their even chocolaty-er Peppermint Mocha contains:

  • Short - 90 mg
  • Tall - 95 mg
  • Grande - 175 mg
  • Venti - 180 mg

Clocking in with the most caffeine, Starbucks Caffe Mochas and Flavored Mochas contain:

  • Short - 90 mg
  • Tall - 90 mg
  • Grande - 175 mg
  • Venti - 180 mg

This is due to the added caffeine from chocolate.

The main exception to the whole "by the shots (plus the chocolate)" measurement for Starbucks drinks is the Flat White. It's made with ristretto espressos instead of regular shots or doppios. It contains:

  • Short and Tall - 90 mg
  • Grande and Venti - 130 mg

Caffeine Levels of Starbucks Frappuccinos

Many of Starbucks' "Creme Frappuccinos" are caffeine free. Caffeine-free Creme Frappuccinos include:

  • Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino
  • Cinnamon Dolce Creme Frappuccino
  • Cotton Candy Creme Frappuccino (available starting in 2015)
  • Cupcake Creme Frappuccino (available starting in 2015)
  • Lemon Bar Creme Frappuccino (available starting in 2015)
  • Pumpkin Spice Creme Frappuccino
  • S'Mores Frappuccino Blended Creme
  • Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino
  • Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino
  • Vanilla Bean Creme Frappuccino
  • White Chocolate Creme Frappuccino

Due to caffeine from chocolate, the Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino and Red Velvet Cake Creme Frappuccino (also available starting in 2015) contains low levels of caffeine:

  • Tall - 10 mg
  • Grande - 15 mg
  • Venti Iced - 20 mg

Unlike most Starbucks Creme Frappuccinos, its Classic Chai Creme Frappuccino and Green Tea Creme Frappuccino Blended Beverages contain caffeine. The Classic Chai Creme Frappuccino's caffeine contents are:

  • Tall - 20 mg
  • Grande - 40 mg
  • Venti Iced - 60 mg

The caffeine contents for the Green Tea Creme Frappuccino are:

  • Tall - 50 mg
  • Grande - 75 mg
  • Venti Iced - 95 mg

Frappuccinos made with coffee also contain caffeine. The new (2015) S'mores Frappuccino Blended Coffee contains:

  • Tall - 50 mg
  • Grande - 75 mg
  • Venti Iced - 110 mg

Starbucks' Cinnamon Dolce Frappuccino Blended Beverage starts at just 60 mg of caffeine per serving:

  • Tall - 60 mg
  • Grande - 85 mg
  • Venti Iced - 110 mg

And, also made with coffee, the new (2015 roll-out) Cinnamon Roll Frappuccino contains:

  • Tall - 55 mg
  • Grande - 85 mg
  • Venti Iced - 115 mg

Although the Starbucks website doesn't chart all the caffeine levels for its Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino Light Blended Beverage, it does say that its Grande Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino contains 85 mg of caffeine, so it seems reasonable to estimate that its caffeine levels for other drink sizes would be similar to those listed above.

Toffee Mocha Frappuccinos have a little extra caffeine from their mocha syrup. They have:

  • Tall - 70 mg
  • Grande - 90 mg
  • Venti Iced - 125 mg

I'm guessing that the Hazelnut Frappuccino also gets its slight caffeine boost from a bit of chocolate in the hazelnut syrup. It has:

  • Mini - 45 mg
  • Tall - 60 mg
  • Grande - 90 mg
  • Venti Iced - 125 mg

The Mocha Frappuccino Light Blended Beverage has slightly more caffeine:

  • Tall - 60 mg
  • Grande - 95 mg
  • Venti Iced - 120 mg

Their Caffe Vanilla FrappuccinoCaramel Brulee Frappuccino and new (as of 2015) Caramel Cocoa Cluster Frappuccino contain the following amounts of caffeine:

  • Tall - 65 mg
  • Grande - 90 mg
  • Venti Iced - 120 mg

Starbucks' website doesn't list complete nutritional information for its Coffee Frappuccino Light Blended Beverage, but it does say that a Grande Coffee Frappuccino contains 90 mg of caffeine, placing it roughly on par with the drinks above.

Starbucks' Caramel Frappuccino and Extra Coffee Caramel Frappuccino both contain the same amount of caffeine:

  • Tall - 65 mg
  • Grande - 95 mg
  • Venti Iced - 120mg

The Mocha Frappuccino and Coffee Frappuccino's caffeine levels are slightly higher:

  • Tall - 70 mg
  • Grande - 95 mg
  • Venti Iced - 130 mg

A Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino contains the following amounts of caffeine:

  • Tall - 70 mg
  • Grande - 100 mg
  • Venti Iced - 125 mg

Due to a mix of caffeine from coffee and caffeine from chocolate, the Java Chip Frappuccino and Java Chip Frappuccino Light contain slightly more caffeine than most Frappuccinos. A Grande Java Chip Frappuccino Light contains 100 mg of caffeine. The regular Java Chip Frappuccino has slightly more caffeine:

  • Tall - 75 mg
  • Grande - 105 mg
  • Venti Iced - 135 mg

Similarly, the White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino has a higher caffeine level (although this is due to its mocha, not due to the white chocolate; white chocolate is caffeine-free).

  • Tall - 85 mg
  • Grande - 110 mg
  • Venti Iced - 155 mg

The Frappuccino with the most caffeine is the Espresso Frappuccino.

  • Tall - 120 mg
  • Grande - 145 mg
  • Venti Iced - 195 mg

A Starbucks' Iced Caffe Americano contains more caffeine:
