What do people think when they hear the word "frappe"? Some people might think about the trade-marked Frappuccino, an icy blended drink of endless colors and flavors. And some people think that it always contains ice cream, like a milkshake. But a frappe is something on its own. It's simply milk and some flavoring (yes, the possibilities are endless). Sometimes ice is added—shaken or blended—until the milk is frothy. Whatever it is, these drinks are always met with excitement whether its an easy to make dessert or very special after school snack.
This was a joint venture between my son Charlie and myself, and it only three ingredients. If you wanted to make a grown up version of this, simply add a shot of Bailey’s or other dessert liqueur.
- 1 1/2 cups ice
- 2 1/2 cups milk (2% fat)
- 1 cup Nestle Toll House Delightfulls Milk Chocolate Morsels with Caramel Filling
- Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and frothy.
- Glass, straw, drink.
Note: If you can't find the Delightfulls candy, use chocolate chips and caramel bits instead. Or if you can't find those, use the chocolate chips and then drizzle in some caramel sauce. Even if you leave out the caramel, the blended chocolate with the milk and ice is delicious on its own! And of course, get creative with what you add to your frappe—you can add anything from fruit (like strawberries or raspberries) to something more adventurous like green tea matcha powder (to which you would probably want to add something sweet, like honey).
If you'd like, top your drink with a swirl of whipped cream! Also feel free to add a drizzle of chocolate or caramel. Add on sprinkles, chocolate chips, cookie crumbs, or whatever toppings you think will make your drink look more impressive or fun.
Here's a simple recipe for sweetened whipped cream:
- ¾ cups heavy or whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar
In a mixing bowl, using a whisk or a hand mixer, combine the cream and confectioners’ sugar just until slightly firm peaks are formed. This will keep for up to 4 days in the refrigerator.
