We purchased the Casabella Painted Steel Original Mop so our writer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

A sponge mop is ideal for cleaning tile, linoleum, and wood floors (if you do not use much water). A quality mop should be able to clean edges, remove stubborn dirt, and leave your floor spotless. The Casabella Original Mop features a 10-inch mop head made of a reusable cellulose sponge. It has a manual wringer on the handle, allowing you to adjust the amount of water you use without needing to touch the sponge head. This mop earns high praise for its sturdy construction and exceptional cleaning power. I put it to the test to see if it lives up to its reputation as a top-quality sponge mop.

The Casabella Original Mop arrives in two pieces, and assembly was a breeze. I attached the handle to the body, which only took a few seconds. Since it operates like a traditional mop, it didn’t need any instructions. When I began mopping, I wasn’t sure if the lever should be facing me or outwards. Since the mop works fine in either position, it seems to be a matter of personal preference. The lever was a little easier to push if it was facing outwards.

The Casabella is a sturdily built mop with an attractive design from Italy. The painted stainless steel handle is smooth to the touch and easy to clean. I love that the handle reclines horizontally—almost to a flat position—so it can go under low furniture.

Measuring 10 x 3.5 inches, the mop head is compact, allowing me to access tight corners and edges. I’m happy to have this mop in my cleaning arsenal. It picked up dirt and dust in places that my upright vacuum couldn’t reach. Weighing about two pounds, this mop is incredibly lightweight and easy to maneuver. It has rubber grips at the top and center of the handle, making it comfortable to hold. The handle is made of heavy-duty plastic to resist rust and features a hang hole for easy storage.

I love that the handle reclines horizontally—almost to a flat position—so it can go under low furniture.

My favorite feature is that the sponge is very dry if you wring it out all the way. I have terrazzo floors that get slippery when they’re wet, so I had avoided mopping the floors in the past. The Casabella mop is a welcome relief; it eliminates excess water. It’s an excellent choice for hardwood floors since too much water can damage them. You can wring as little or as much water as you need from the mop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the mop come with any accessories?

Unlike some other sponge mops, it doesn’t come with extra tools such as a scrubbing brush or scuff eraser. However, this standard cellulose sponge didn't need them; it could tackle most stubborn stains. The mop doesn’t come with any refills, but you can purchase a replacement sponge head for about $13.

Is this mop durable?

Other reviewers say the stainless steel is sturdy and can stand up to years of use. Although some users report the sponge has come apart after the few first uses. I’ve had the mop for about a month, and it’s held up well after multiple cleanings. Casabella stands behind their products, offering a lifetime guarantee on their products.

Is the mop worth buying?

The Casabella is on the higher end for a sponge mop and did a great job picking up dirt and scrubbing off old stains. After a couple of passes, my floors looked clean and shiny. Its performance was on par with a much more expensive steam mop that I tested. The mop was well worth the money and a budget-friendly solution compared to more advanced tools like steam, spray, and robotic mops.

Casabella Painted Steel Original Mop vs. the Competition

If you need a mop that can handle really dirty floors, the Libman Nitty Gritty Roller Mop is a real workhorse. In addition to the sponge head, this mop has an attached scrub brush to tackle stubborn stains. Like the Casabella, the Nitty Gritty’s roller mechanism is controlled by a lever on the handle, allowing you to control the amount of water you squeeze from the mop. With its curved steel handle, more sponge surface comes in contact with the floor. Retailing for about $13, the Nitty Gritty Roller Mop is one of the most budget-friendly options on the market.

If you need a sponge mop specifically designed for hardwood floors, O-Cedar Wood-Matic Roller Mop is a great choice. It has a super-dry sponge, preventing excess water from damaging wood floors. This mop includes a felt pad scuff eraser to remove scuff marks and stuck-on dirt without scratching your floors.

Final Verdict

Well worth the investment.

The construction of the Casabella Original Mop features a sturdy, rust-resistant design that lasts. This powerhouse delivers a superb cleaning performance. It removed tough dirt and stains, accessed hard-to-reach places, and left my floors impeccably clean and shiny. The Casabella is more expensive than your average sponge mop, but it's worth it with a lifetime guarantee.
