A regular piece of 8 1/2" x 11" paper is not quite big enough for this project. To cut all three pieces out of the duct tape sheet, it needs to be about 13-inches tall. You can make 2 duct tape sheets or, do as I did, and extend the duct tape beyond the edge of the paper. Simply use an extra strip of tape extending beyond the top and bottom edges of the paper.

Now we can finish the other side of the duct tape sheet.

To finish making your duct tape sheet, flip over your duct tape covered piece of paper. Cut a piece of duct tape about 11- to 13-inches long (depending on the size of your sheet) and lay it across the side edge of the piece of paper. These piece of duct tape are running the opposite direction as the first step.

Cut a second piece of duct tape about 11- to 13-inches long and lay it on the paper, slightly overlapping the first piece of tape. Continue this until the entire piece of paper is covered...MORE with duct tape.

We are now ready to start making the duct tape checkbook cover.

We will now measure and draw the checkbook cover pieces on the duct tape sheet you made. You need to measure three pieces:

    • 7 1/2" x 6 1/2" (the main checkbook cover piece)
    • 6 1/2" x 3" (to make one of the inside pockets)
    • 6 1/2" x 3" (to make the other inside pocket)

As noted, these pieces will not fit on one duct tape sheet unless you make the sheet bigger.

Now we can cut out the pieces.

Lay the 7 1/2" x 6 1/2" main checkbook cover piece on your work surface. The color you want the outside of your duct tape checkbook cover to be should be facing down. Lining up the 6 1/2-inch edges, lay your 6 1/2" x 3" inside pocket pieces on top of the checkbook cover.

Cut a piece of duct tape, about 8-inches long. Cut the strip in half so you end up with 2 pieces that are each about 8" x 1". Use these two strips to cover and attach the long edges of the checkbook cover...MORE to the checkbook pockets. Stick the pieces of tape along the checkbook cover edges and then fold the remaining tape over to stick to the checkbook pockets.

Now, we can finish the other edges.
