This Cat Hat is a really quick and easy pattern that's sure to be a hit with any cat-loving little girl on your list. The hat is just a simple Stockinette Stitch hat worked in the round; the fun comes with the addition to simple triangular ears and stitched embellishments.

    Materials:

    • about 55 yards medium weight yarn of your choice (I used the discontinued yarn Rowan Soft Baby)
    • scrap of black medium weight yarn

    • tape measure, scissors and...MORE yarn needle

    Gauge:

    Ears (Make 4):

    1. Using two double-pointed needles but knitting back and forth, cast on 6 stitches.
    2. Purl 1 row.
    3. Knit 1 row.
    4. Purl 1 row.
    5. Slip, slip, knit, knit 2, knit 2 together (4 stitches).
    6. Purl 1 row.
    7. SSK, k2tog (2 stitches).
    8. Purl 1 row.
    9. K2tog (1 stitch).
    10. Cut yarn and pull through remaining stitch.

Once four ears have been completed, hold two ears wrong sides together and stitch around the edges. Repeat with remaining ears, then sew onto hat as shown or wherever you would like.

    Embellishing the...MORE Cat Hat:

Using a length of medium weight black yarn and a yarn needle, stitch eyes and a nose using duplicate stitch.

The whiskers are simply really long stitches worked on a slight diagonal. The center whisker is longer than the other two.
