This spicy chipotle gravy recipe is perfect served over meatloaf, roast beef, or steak. Don't forget to save some for the mashed potatoes!

What You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 green onions (white and light green parts), chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 4 cups/1 quart beef broth, chilled
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon canned​ chipotle pepper in​ ​adobo, finely chopped

How to Make It

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in 1 cup of the stock until blended.
  2. Stir in the remaining stock, ketchup, and chipotle pepper and bring to a simmer, whisking often. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, whisking occasionally. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve hot.
