The original blend of this age was released in 1909 and captured the tastes of New York City high society types almost immediately. Inspired by that, Master Blender Colin Scott has recaptured the beauty of that Scotch and created a succulent sipper and an elegant experience.
Prohibition and war may have taken the appeal out of the original expression for an earlier generation of Americans, but the 2007 release has brought some of that history back.
The bottle is bold and noble with a tall, muscular design embellished by heraldic graphics. The silver and gold neck also carries the same red seal marked with a 25 that adorned the 1909 release.
Each individual whisky that makes up this bottling is aged for at least 25 years and the combination of them is a testament to the quality of the Chivas' aging, refined stock, and master blending.
Chivas Regal 25 YO Scotch has distinct notes of apricot and peach throughout, a warm, fruity aroma and a nutty, chocolate and orange palate. It is the ultimate in smooth and balanced Scotch with an astonishingly rounded finish.
This Scotch is meant to be sniffed, sipped, and relished and at nearly $300 a bottle, that's probably all you will want to do with it.
The 12 and 18 YO's are also known for their premium status but are considerably more affordable (less than $100). Any of them are a fine choice.
