Classic Wooden Doll Houses

These classic toys never go out of style.

There’s nothing like a wooden doll houses for inspiring nostalgia in mom and hours of play for kids. My girls had an Ikea wooden doll house. It wasn’t classic--in the sense that it was a very modern-looking townhouse--but it was a good old-fashioned toy with tons of imaginative play potential. I'd say I liked it as much as the girls because it was easily portable, it was two pieces (which meant it could reside in two different rooms), and it was a flat-roof townhouse, just like our house. Of...MORE all the toys, only the train sets got more playtime than that old doll house.

    I don’t know if Ikea still makes that doll house, but I have put together a list of wooden doll houses--both classic and modern--that could encourage hours of fantasy role-playing in your kids. Maybe one of them looks like your house!

    This may be as close as I can find to my girls’ townhouse doll house, but at nearly 4 feet in height it is not exactly portable. But for many parents (who don’t live in a 12-foot wide rowhouse) that’s not necessarily an issue. It’s large enough that multiple children can play together. What I like about this one--besides the fact that it not pink--is that is actually two pieces can be rearranged in various ways according to children's imagination or even kept in two different rooms.
