     Costs for attending college vary widely from state to state and from public to private schools. In state students always get a better deal on their state's universities than out of state students do, and private schools nearly always cost more than public schools for out of state students. The following list shows the basic costs for a selection of schools across the country. Not included in the costs are extracurriculars like sororities, fraternities and clubs and activities.

Boston University has a prestigious communications school, the popular College of General Studies and a strong performing arts program. Famous alumni include civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.,  radio shock jock Howard Stern, and singer/songwriter Joan Baez.
