Coyuchi Mediterranean Organic Towel

We purchased the Coyuchi Mediterranean Organic Towel so our writer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

For almost 30 years, Coyuchi has been manufacturing luxury organic linens. The Coyuchi Mediterranean Towel is a modern and elegant version of traditional towels found in bathhouses. If you’re looking to spruce up your bathroom, this towel seems like an excellent—albeit expensive—choice. Assessing components like design, texture, and durability, I tested the Coyuchi towel to see if it’s worthy of its high price tag. Read on to hear my final verdict.

As soon as I removed the Coyuchi Mediterranean Towel from its packaging, I was impressed by how soft and lightweight it is. It’s made from 100% organic Turkish cotton and has a smooth, durable weave. These towels are available in five colors that should blend in nicely with your existing decor. The fringed edges, striped border, and patterned weave give them a unique yet subtle sophistication. I ordered mine in shadow with a deep pewter stripe —a mix of grays that added a nice touch to my bathroom.

Since the Coyuchi towel has such an elegant design, it is limited to the bathroom.

The Coyuchi Mediterranean Towel is more decorative than your standard Turkish towel, which has its pros and cons. I prefer a hybrid towel that I can bring to the beach and wear as a sarong. Since the Coyuchi towel has such an elegant, delicate design, it is limited to bathroom use. I would hate to take it outside and lose it to a costly gust of wind. Coyuchi linens are quite expensive—a single towel will run you about $58.

As a rule of thumb, a Turkish towel is not my first choice for a bath towel. They are thinner and less plush than regular bath towels. After testing the Coyuchi towel, I’m a fan. I liked its smooth feel against my skin. Its durable weave stood up to multiple washes, indicating high-quality construction. From an aesthetic standpoint, I thought it made an elegant addition to my bathroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the sizing?

Measuring 54 x 28 inches, this towel is on the smaller side. It worked well enough for full-body drying, and I was able to wrap it around me, but I didn’t have that much room to spare. I wear a women’s medium, so it might not suffice for larger adults.

Is this towel absorbent?

When it comes to absorbency, the Coyuchi Mediterranean Towel does a decent job, but I wasn’t wowed by it. I had to run the towel over my body a few times before I was completely dry. Thanks to its thin texture and smaller size, I could easily wrap my hair up in it. While bulkier towels tend to weigh my head down or fall off, the Coyuchi towel stays put.

What are the care instructions?

As per the tag instructions, you should machine wash with cold water on a gentle cycle. Since the towel has fringed edges, I kept it separated from any garments with zippers, hooks, or anything else the towel could snag on. Because the towel is thin, it air-dries quickly. You can tumble dry on low heat as well. Use only non-chlorine bleach as needed.

Is this towel durable?

I was happy to see that this towel maintained its shape and smooth texture after multiple washes. I put it in the washer and dryer, and I never noticed any loose threads, lint, or shedding.

Is this towel worth buying?

If you’re stocking your linen closet, a set of Coyuchi Mediterranean Organic Towels will put a dent in your wallet. For reference, a six-piece set that includes two bath towels, two hand towels, and two washcloths costs about $150. Although they aren’t cheap, I think the cost is fair considering their soft and sophisticated design. Keep in mind that Coyuchi’s offering is on the luxurious side for a hammam towel, but it is significantly thinner and far less plush when compared to standard bath towels.

Coyuchi Mediterranean Towel vs. the Brooklinen Hammam Towel

If you like the feel of a more luxurious Turkish towel, Brooklinen offers a soft and sophisticated take on the traditional fouta or Turkish towel. With striped cotton on one side and looped terry cotton on the reverse, the Brooklinen Hammam Towel makes a great bath or beach towel. It’s not as elegant-looking as Coyuchi’s version, but it is thicker, plusher, and more absorbent. It’s also more expensive—a single towel costs about $65. While Coyuchi offers their Mediterranean Towels in various sizes (bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths), Brooklinen’s Hammam Towel is only available in one size—a generous 40 x 70-inch towel.

Final Verdict

A luxurious option that’s worth the splurge.

The Coyuchi Mediterranean Organic Towel is soft, lightweight, and well-made. If you’re a fan of Turkish towels, it’s a great choice for a bath towel—but it’s a little too lavish for the beach.
