And yes, you can work mainly from home within this career since you don’t need an actual “shop” to do this. Furniture and decor can be sold through online stores such as Etsy and Ebay, from personal blogs and/or websites, and from other retail spaces such as flea or antique markets that rent booths to resellers. Some experts even sell directly to dealers.

Decorative painters, upholsterers, furniture builders, painters and refinishers make up the bulk of this type of interior decorating careers but the choices don't stop there. If you have a talent that fits, the decorating world will take you. Herein lies the wonderful world of decorating, full of talents galore. So you can paint murals on ceramic tile and make a bathroom look like a Roman bathhouse fit for a goddess? Then get going and sell yourself. If you have a talent in an area, use it. The decorating world welcomes you.

Working from home can be lucrative and enjoyable, but before starting any business be sure to do your research and know your market. Regardless of how exciting working from home sounds, your business will still be a job.

In order for you to be successful, it must be treated as such. Overnight success is possible but not probable. However, the most successful business ventures are ones where the owner has smart business sense, is skilled at what he or she does and is assertive at offering their valuable expertise to others.
