Did you ever do sand art as a kid? You'd choose a nifty or funky bottle and fill it with layers of different colored sand. The end result made a cool pattern that looked like a landscape from another planet. The one downside of creating sand art as a kid the potential for it to be very messy.

Welcome to the age of technology and the solution to messy sand art: Thisissand.com. Thisissand.com is the virtual version of old-school sand art, offering all the creativity and fun, but without the gritty mess.

Thisissand.com is easy enough for even very young children to use. As a bonus, the drawing page is completely blank, so there is no need to worry about advertising or inappropriate content while playing.

Creating Sand Art with Thisissand on the Web

Using Thisissand on the Web is easy—just click on the canvas to start the shower of virtual sand, and drag around your screen. The sand will accumulate at the bottom of the screen canvas, and the longer you linger in one place, the larger the sand will pile up.

You can change sand color by clicking the color circle in the upper right of the screen. In the color palette that appears, click to choose a new color. You can create multicolor sand by clicking and holding the mouse button on a color, and then moving to a new color and pausing. After a moment's pause, the second color is selected and appears as a smaller color circle within the original.

The resulting sand will be a mix of grains of each color.

Double-clicking on the canvas will lock the pouring sand to a single spot and will continue until you click to stop it. Make mountains using this and while resting your finger.

Saving and Sharing Your Sand Art

You can save your sand art as you create it by clicking the menu button in the upper left and then click the camera icon.

This will open a "Save As" window so you can select the name and location where you want to save the image.

When you've completed your masterpiece, open the menu and click "Finish." You will be prompted for your name and a title for your art. You can then upload it to the gallery for others to see. You can also see latest sand art that others have submitted to the gallery and the most popular submissions.
