Most children (and some of us adults) have active imaginations and with movies like Lord of the Rings and holidays like St. Patrick's Day, wishes of being an elf or leprechaun are pretty common. With just a few simple steps you can turn your child (or yourself) into one of the "wee folk", an elf, or maybe even a fairy princess.

Once you have selected a photo showing the ear tip, zoom in on the ear so that you can easily see the area you are working with. Select the smudge tool in Photoshop Elements. Next, select a brush size that is slightly smaller than the top inside of the ear. Under the strength option select about 63%. With slow and short strokes, carefully begin smudging the inside of the ear upwards. This builds the inside of the ear (we'll build the outside in a minute). Remember that elf/fairy/leprechaun...MORE ears are generally depicted as having a slight curve in them and are not necessarily large points.

Once you have the inside of the ear built, you can begin on the outside of the ear. Still using the smudge tool, reset the brush size to slightly smaller than the rim of the ear and set the strength to about 83%. Beginning with the back of the ear, pull/smudge the ear edge upwards and slightly backward. Then repeat the process with the front ear edge so that you create a nice elfish point. You may need to do a bit of "touch up" on the inside ear to make everything match at the point.
