These butter cookies are rolled out, coated with cinnamon sugar, and baked to perfection. This recipe is great for the holidays, and you can use whatever cookie cutters you like!

What You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (9 ounces)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 egg white (lightly beaten)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

How to Make It

  1. Cream butter and sugar and stir in well-beaten egg.
  2. Sift flour and baking powder together in another bowl.
  3. Blend the flour mixture into the creamed mixture to make a soft dough. Set in refrigerator to chill.
  4. When cold, place between lightly floured sheets of waxed paper or parchment paper; roll out about 1/8-inch thick.
  5. Knead in more flour if needed.
  6. Cut into decorative shapes with cookie cutters and place on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake at 275° for about 30 to 40  minutes or until lightly browned.
