This crochet cloche hat is called the Daisy Mae Cloche because of the daisy-inspired flower embellishment added to the side of the design. The design is further enhanced by surface crochet stitch details. Daisy Mae also has a sweet, feminine sound to the name, which is perfect for the vintage-inspired design of the cloche. This is a fairly easy crochet hat pattern that works up quickly using half double crochet stitches.

Required Materials

Yarn:
Lion Brand Wool Ease [80% acrylic / 20% wool; 85 grams; 197 yards; worsted weight],

Main Color: 1 (1, 2, 2) skeins “Denim”

To substitute yarn you will need approximately 175 to 240 yards of your main color and 20 yards of your coordinating color. Make sure to choose a worsted weight yarn for similar gauge and finished sizes.

Crochet Hooks:

  • US size G/4.5mm crochet hook for hat
  • US size H/5mm crochet hook for flower
  • Adjust hook sizes as necessary to achieve gauge listed below.

Extras:

Gauge and Finished Measurements

Gauge: 16 hdc = 4” using size G/4.5mm hook.

Finished Measurements: 16 (18, 20, 22)” circumference around forehead

Note: The Daisy Mae crocheted cloche shouldn’t fit as tightly as a beanie or winter hat. Choose the size closest to your actual head measurement for the best fit.

Add Embellishment

With cc yarn, make a flower following the 3D Crochet Flower free pattern.

Before applying the flower to your hat, use cc yarn to work surface crochet accents. Begin at the top center of the crown and make your way down the back of the hat and then continue around the circumference of the hat working at forehead level.

When working the surface crochet stitches make certain you aren’t pulling the yarn too tightly. If you do you’ll notice the hat won’t stretch comfortably on your head.

Secure flower to side of hat.

Weave in all ends.

Note: If the brim falls too much in your face you can try gently ironing it into place. To do so, fold brim up toward right side (pointing to crown) and iron from the inside of the hat. Remember: Before ironing make sure to check the care instructions for your yarn.
