Slow Cooker Navy Beans with Onion and Bacon

Crock pot baked beans. Navy beans are cooked until tender and then they are finished in the slow cooker with a ketchup and molasses mixture.

What You'll Need

  • 1 pound dry navy beans
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

How to Make It

  1. Put the beans in a large saucepan with about 6 cups of water. ​Let stand for 1 hour.
  2. Place the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until the beans are tender. Add more water if needed to keep the beans covered. 
  3. In a bowl, combine the onion, ketchup, brown sugar, water, mustard, and molasses.
  4. Drain the beans well and mix with the ketchup mixture in the crockpot. Cover and cook on LOW for 5 to 7 hours. Add salt about 30 minutes before serving time. Stir occasionally.
