It’s easy to spend a lot of money on skincare, but sometimes, going down the natural route is the best thing we can do for our skin. Whether you want to know how to get rid of chapped lips or need a solution for your spot-prone skin, there’s usually a DIY treatment you can whisk together with ingredients you probably already have in the pantry. Admittedly, things can get a little messy when you start experimenting with home remedies for your skin (so don’t wear your best shirt), but if you give DIY beauty a shot, you will love the results – and how much money you can save in the process.

How to Get Glowing Skin

Raw honey, which is an unfiltered honey of a thicker consistency than what you usually get in the store, has a great effect on the skin. It can help to fight bacteria and is full of antioxidant goodness and enzymes that keep your skin fresh, moisturized, and glowing. To reap all the benefits of raw honey, you can simply spread the honey on your face like a face mask. Leave it on for 15 minutes, rinse it off with warm water, and enjoy your soft, nurtured skin.

How to Fight Acne

Honey is also great for treating acne prone skin. Mix a tablespoon of raw honey with some cinnamon powder to clear your skin. Apply the mixture to your face after you’ve cleansed it and let it sit for up to one hour. You can also use this as a more precise spot treatment –apply the mixture straight onto the zit, leave it overnight, and rinse it in the morning.

If you’re looking for a mask to calm inflamed skin, crush two aspirin tablets, add a tablespoon of water and a tablespoon of honey and mix well.

Apply this to your clean face and rinse it off after 15 minutes. Make sure not to use this mask too often – once a week is fine – and be careful if you have any allergies.

How to Minimize Dark Circles

If you had a long night and can feel the bags under the eyes growing by the minute, try using tea bags to calm down puffy eyes and minimize dark circles.

Green tea is your best bet here – the ingredient of caffeine will help to calm skin in no time. Make yourself a cup of green tea, take out the tea bags once you’re done, cool them for a few minutes in the refrigerator and then keep them on your closed eyes for 10 minutes. No one will know you’re lacking sleep!

How to Get Rid of Chapped Lips

If you want to know how to get rid of chapped lips, look no further than this simple scrub. All you need is a teaspoon of your standard moisturizer (body or face), half a teaspoon of ground coffee, and half a teaspoon of sugar. Mix the ingredients, apply this mixture to your lips and massage it in.

Rinse it off and enjoy your soft, healthy lips. If you want to exfoliate your entire body or know that your lips can take a good scrub, you can use coarse-grained salt instead of sugar – the rougher texture will be more effective in getting rid of dead skin cells.

How to Naturally Cleanse

Did you know that making a natural cleanser is really easy? Tea tree oil is a great oil to use since it fights bacteria and helps get rid of acne. Mix several drops of tea tree oil with equal parts grapeseed and castor oil (about a quarter of a cup each) and whisk the ingredients together.

Work the oil into your face for a few minutes, then wipe off the oil cleanser with a wet towel – preferably hot. This cleanser is especially great to use at night. Note that these oils might not work for your skin – there are different ways of doing this depending on the texture of your skin, so if in doubt, do your research and find out which oil combination is the best for you.
