A variety of grains gives this easy slow cooker hot cereal great flavor and excellent texture. Top the cereal with berries or a drizzling of maple syrup or cane syrup.
I've included an easy slow cooker steel-cut oatmeal recipe below this recipe.
- 1/4 cup cracked wheat
- 1/4 cup steel cut oats
- 1/4 cup coconut, sweetened or not
- 3 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 cup pearl barley
- 1/4 cup brown rice
- Combine all ingredients in the crockery insert of the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 7 to 9 hours.
Slow Cooker Steel-Cut Oatmeal With Cranberries
In a greased slow cooker, combine 2 cups of steel cut oats with 6 1/2 cups of water, 1 cup of applesauce, 1/3 to 1/2 cup of brown sugar, chopped cranberries or raisins. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Add 1/2 cup of light cream or half-and-half and cook for another 10 minutes.
Garnish with some cinnamon sugar or more dried cranberries. Serve with milk.
