The official start of fall is here, but to be honest we started celebrating our favorite cozy season as soon as Starbucks announced their pumpkin spice drinks were back on the menu. But now that it’s officially appropriate to be gearing up for fall, we're revamping our homes and even our loungewear options for the chilly evenings and crisp mornings ahead.

If you’re overwhelmed by the sheer amount of “cozy” fall items available this season, look no further—our editors are here to help. From researching the comfiest slippers to putting fuzzy blankets to the test, they know how to prepare a home for fall and stay cozy while doing so.

We also reached out to Lauren Robbins, Founder and Lead Designer of Lauren Robbins Interiors, to learn her trick for prepping any home’s decor for fall. “In this cooler season, you want your home to feel cozier, nubbier, so we reach for items with weight and wool, and we like to add fragrance as another layer so it feels like fall, from touch to smell,” Robbins says.

Here are our editors’ favorite items to prepare their homes for fall, from cozy blankets to fresh artwork.

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Throw Blanket

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Throw Blanket

Nordstrom

"Every year when the temperature starts to drop, I can't wait to cozy up in my Barefoot Dreams blanket with a hot cuppa and a good book. This is truly the softest blanket I've ever owned—even after multiple washes. Available in 10 beautiful color options, it looks great as decor draped over my couch too. While I highly recommend treating yourself to this ultra-plush throw, it's also my go-to housewarming gift."—Hannah Freedman, Commerce Editorial Director

Janet Hill Halloween Art Prints

Janet Hill

"I've been a Janet Hill fan for years, and her Halloween and fall-themed prints are so delightful, I wish I had room for all of them. I love the colors she uses and the vintage vibes she creates, and how downright funny some of the scenes are. I just ordered her deck of playing cards for when I need a relaxed indoor activity on a cold day, and there's a line of jigsaw puzzles, too."—Dena Ogden, Commerce Writer

Bath & Body Works Fresh Fall Morning Wallflower Fragrance Refill

Fresh Fall Morning Wallflower Refill

Bath & Body Works

"This Wallflower scent reminds me so much of a brisk fall morning. It has somewhat of a warm, woodsy aroma. I bought one and placed it in our entryway so that when guests come over, they're immediately greeted with a fragrance that's reminiscent of fall."—Jalesa Campbell, Associate Social Media Editor

Urban Outfitters Amped Fleece Throw Blanket

Urban Outfitters

"Like mugs, you can never have enough cozy blankets and this one is my favorite to snuggle up on the couch with morning, afternoon, and night. I have it in a light pink color, and appreciate that it hasn't lost its softness over months and months of use. It's also just big enough to squeeze two people under it, if you want to take a weekend nap with your significant other or snuggle up with your family pup!"—Marisa Viglione, Senior Commerce Editor

Pact Airplane Cardigan

Pact

"I love to reach for a cozy cardigan when the seasons change. This long, open option from Pact Organics is soft, drapes nicely, and is a comfortable transitional piece from late summer to the beginning of fall."—Yoona Wagener, Senior Commerce Editor

Lush Cosmetics Deep Sleep Bath Bomb

Bath Bomb Deep Sleep

Lush

"Once it starts to get cold outside, I love having a selection of bath bombs from Lush on hand. My current favorites are the Avobath and Deep Sleep bomb. Both are soothing and make the bathwater shimmer. All the products from Lush smell amazing, but I really love checking out the festive seasonal items (like this Self Scare set for Halloween) that come in an assortment of shapes and colors. Lush products are cruelty-free, ethically and sustainably sourced, handmade, and tend to be sparkly!"—Anna Mejorada, Commerce Writer, The Spruce Pets

Vitruvi Stone Essential Oil Diffuser

Diffuser

Vitruvi

"Vitruvi's stone diffuser creates a scent experience that's just as luxurious as the product itself. I love popping a few drops of their Grassland blend into my diffuser to wind down after a long work day. I also plan on picking up their new scent "Legacy," which has notes of bergamot and rose to really up the cozy factor in my apartment."—Emma Phelps, Updates Writer

MUJI Unisex Flannel Long Shirt

Muji Unisex Flannel Long Shirt

MUJI

"While advertised as something you could wear outside, maybe with jeans, this soft flannel long shirt from Muji is actually the ultimate lounging outfit. It's more comfortable and easier to wear around the house than a bathrobe (it's a little too warm to wear as pajamas, however). I also love the banded collar and adjustable button cuffs. It's available in five different relaxing earth tones."—Andrew Whalen, Senior Commerce Editor, The Spruce Pets

Aromatique Pumpkin Spice - Textured Glass Candle

Aromatique Pumpkin Spice Candle

Macy's

"This candle is fall in fragrance form. As soon as it starts burning, it just makes me smile and want to wrap up in a blanket asap. The scent is strong but not overpowering, and it even lingers a bit once blown out. You can tell that it's a quality candle, but it's half the price of similarly-sized candles, so it's easy to justify buying one for yourself and gifting one to another fall-loving friend."—Erin Johnson, Commerce Editor

Old Friend Juliet Slipper

Old Friend Juliet Slipper

Amazon

"I live in an old, drafty house, so when fall hits, a cozy pair of slippers is essential. I love this pair of slippers that I got last year. While being easy to slip on and off, they are cozy around my foot and have good support. They also feel very stable with a nice tread on the bottom so I can run around the house after my kids if I need to. They held up well last season and continue to keep me feeling warm and snuggly while I work from home, or watch a movie."—Jenica Currie, Associate Commerce Editor

Brooklinen Checkerboard Robe

Brooklinen Checkerboard Robe

Brooklinen

"As soon as the temperature starts to drop, I reach for my robe. This new one from Brooklinen is perfect for fall. I have the amazing mustard color (which I'm wearing as I type this) that just screams autumn, but it also comes in an adorable green and red. The short style and wide sleeves make it a transitional robe that works for warmer months as well. It's incredibly soft, absorbent, and comfortable. I'll be living in it through the winter."—Julia Fields, Assistant Commerce Editor

Luxome Luxury Sheet Set

LUXOME Luxury Sheet Set | 100% Viscose from Bamboo | Full Size - Sapphire | Deep Pockets | 4-Piece Set (Fitted, Flat, 2 Pillowcases)

Amazon

"Luxome's bamboo sheets are what I casually refer to as my fancy sheets, and I love breaking them out during the fall. Sage isn't a stereotypical fall color, but fall can't be all reds, oranges, and yellows all the time. The sheets are super soft and make my bed look luxurious and comfy at the same time."—Jenny Hughes, Editor

"Every year, PF puts out the most amazing fall-inspired candle scents. The apple picking scent smells so crisp and immediately reminds me of mulled cider and walking through an orchard!"—Candace Madonna, Senior Visual Editor

Chappywrap Blanket

blue patterned chappywrap blanket

Chappywrap

"This thick, cozy blanket has been one of my go-to fall items since the brand sent me one to try over two years ago. On weekends, I love taking it to the park for picnics with friends. It's thick enough to keep me warm even if the ground is chilly, and it's plenty big to fit at least two people comfortably. I also love using it to make my couch look (and feel!) extra inviting when it starts getting chilly at night. Since it can get thrown in the washer and dryer, I can easily switch between using it as an outdoor and indoor blanket whenever I want."—Kate Geraghty, Director
