The 5 Key Elements Of Luxury Bedding With Cultiver
No matter how you look at it, the bedroom is one of the most important spaces in any home. From a functional standpoint, they both tend to be (and need to be) the most relaxing spaces that we have. We may have other rooms in our home that are just as good when we’re looking for a place to unwind, but when we’re really looking to switch off and detach from the outside world, there’s just no better place to accomplish that than in the bedroom. At the same time, when we look at the home through a... designer’s eye, we find again that the bedroom stands very near the top of our list of designable spaces. In most cases, our bedrooms are second only to our living rooms in terms of the sheer number of possibilities for furnishings, textiles, art and other accessories. But even more than is true for living rooms, a well-designed bedroom can be good for more than just your eye. For years, scientific studies have shown time and again that sleep and stress relief are both crucial elements in maintaining our health, and a well designed bedroom can provide both. Combine that with a seemingly limitless number of options for headboards, bedding, lighting and everything else that can make a room glow, and you’ve got the sort of space that designers dream of. That’s what makes bedrooms so much fun to decorate, and why a beautifully designed bedroom is always worth the investment of time and creativity (and sometimes even money). But the best part of decorating any bedroom is finding ways to give it that sense of luxury and style that we expect to find only in palatial homes or glamorous hotels. And it doesn’t take millions of dollars or a luxury designer to make your bedroom feel like it’s fit for the stars. In fact, all you really need, is the right bedding.
It’s no surprise that the bed is always the center of attention in any bedroom. And the center of attention on the bed is almost always going to be the bedding (though there are a few headboards that can give bedding a run for its money). So whatever the look or feel that you’re trying to create, the bed is always the place to start and the bedding is usually your best bet. That’s great news because it means that you don’t need to tackle the entire room to change the look of your bedroom. Instead, all you need is the right bedding that can take your bedroom from flat to drop dead gorgeous in no time at all. So the only question now is, “How do I find the right bedding?” Well, I’m glad you asked. In fact, I was just wondering the same thing. So to give us all a better perspective on how to bring a bit more glam to our bedsheets, I decided to talk with Nicolle Sullivan, bedding guru and CEO at Cultiver. They gave me the facts on how to spot the five key elements that make for the kind of amazing, top-of-the-line, luxury bedding that will take your decor to new places while being so comfortable that you’ll never have to count another sheep again. The one little hint I can give you right now: thread count has nothing to do with it.

The Importance Of Weave
Since we’ve already touched on the myth of thread count, let’s start with an element that’s closely related but a bit more meaningful when it comes to luxury sheets. One of the first elements you’ll want to consider when wanting to buy the best in bedding isn’t the number of threads involved but the type of weave that was used to put them together. There are a number of reasons for this, but the most pressing is that the type of weave can have an impact on the price due to the amount of labor... required in the process of creating the textile. There are actually several types of weaves available in the marketplace, so it pays to do a little research before you buy. The options range from the most popular plain weaves and go all the way up to the jacquard weave - a particularly complicated method which requires a specially outfitted loom, and is among the most expensive weave types around.
When looking for luxury bedding that you can enjoy every day one of the best options to go with is a percale weave linen such as Cultiver’s linen flat sheet. The weave of this sheet is similar to a basketweave in that it is crisp to the touch and yet remains lightweight enough to help keep you cool during the warmer months of the year.Continue to 3 of 6 below.

Know Your Fibers
The next thing you’ll want to look for is the type of fiber that your bedding is made from. Fiber is an important element specifically with regard to comfort, but can also be an important consideration if allergies are a concern for you or your little ones. Just as with weave, there are plenty of options to choose from, so finding the one that’s right for you is just a matter of time. Linen textiles, for example, are produced from flax plants that are predominately cultivated in Western Europe.... To manufacture the finished linen is quite a labor intensive process, and as a result linen is one of the most luxurious and comfortable options for sheets, comforters and duvets that you can choose. One of the most interesting qualities inherent to linen are the porous fibers that exist throughout the material. These allow your linen sheets to absorb moisture without feeling wet, which is a big plus during the hotter part of the year. Yet these same pores also trap heat in the winter, making it a great idea to huddle under linen blankets or throws when the temperature outside begins to dip. So whether you sleep hot or cold this textile can help you sleep comfortably which is probably the biggest priority when looking for bedding of any sort. Linen is also a great healthy choice for bedding because its flax fibers naturally prevent the growth of bacteria, making it harder to get sick and harder to pass bacteria along. This, along with its natural durability, is one of the reasons why linen is so often the choice for kitchen and bathroom towels and why linen sheets might be the ideal pick for outfitting a bedroom for you or your kids.Continue to 4 of 6 below.

Like so many things that we purchase in the marketplace, you can infer a lot about the quality of a piece by it’s place of origin. And while this is hardly an infallible barometer of the excellence of the materials or of skill in manufacture, quite often where a product was made does impact the quality of the piece. This is certainly true for bedding. Some of the best sheet makers in the industry are from countries like Italy and France. According to Nicolle, all of Cultiver’s fabrics originate... from France. France has been producing linen textiles for centuries have long experience and a well-earned reputation for developing and creating long lasting, soft, supple linens that can last you a lifetime.Continue to 5 of 6 below.

Check The Finish
One of the final steps in producing the majority of bedroom textiles is to add on a finish. The finish is usually a man-made chemical that is used to prevent shrinkage or repel stains. Manufactured chemicals rarely make a product healthier, and given the amount of time you spend with your bedding against your skin, it may be an important point to consider. One of the benefits to purchasing high-end bedding is that because of the weave, fiber and other elements, it doesn't need an added... finish to make it durable. All Cultiver linens are pre-washed when you purchase them to ensure softness, durability, and to prevent shrinkage prior to purchasing the product. Adding to their value is the fact that the product is made from 100% organic linen. Similar to selecting healthy foods, the rule for bedding tends to be that the fewer elements are used to create the product, the better its quality. For the best of all worlds, Nicolle suggests trying Cultiver's Linen Sheet Sets which include a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and 2 pillow cases to ensure comfort and health for your entire bed.Continue to 6 of 6 below.

Consider The Price
Let’s be honest. When any of us first begins to explore the possibility of any new purchase for the home, price is almost always one of the larger factors in the decision making process. Generally that’s a good strategy to follow and typically bedding is no exception to this rule. But maybe it should be. I've personally found that, when it comes to bedding, looking for a cheaper price has almost always left me with the same results. Often the less expensive bedding only holds its shape for a... short period of time, and after multiple washes it begins to pill. Once things reach that point, I generally find - sooner rather than later - that the bedding is no longer comfortable to sleep with at night. After a couple of times going through this same cycle, I finally decided to change my thought process around purchasing quality bedding. I began to look at it as less of an expense and more of an investment in my own comfort and convenience as I would have to spend less time searching for replacement bedding. Even a simple option such as Cultiver's Linen Bed Cover is durable enough to last years and years yet versatile enough to fit into any room design that I can come up with. Once I realized that the tradeoff for higher-end bedding was that I wouldn’t be forced into buying it again and again, I no longer had sticker shock when looking into luxury bed linens.
