Welcome to Food Photography at About!
I am Evi Abeler a professional food and still-life photographer based in New York City. I help clients in the culinary world to communicate the love, passion, and thought that go into every project through simple, yet elegant food photography. In addition to my commercial work I offers food photography training and workshops, collaborate on the recipe blog Whip+Click, and am the food photography expert here at about.com.
Growing up in rural Germany, I lived a farm-to-table experience. My grandmother would wash muddy carrots, pluck feathers from freshly slaughtered chickens, and cook the game that my grandfather, an avid hunter, brought home. The rich smells from the stove are still a lovely memory for me. The gift of a camera at an early age sparked a new passion, which I explored further in high school, and eventually brought me to New York City to earn a master’s degree in fine art photography.
After working for five years as an in-house photographer and designer for the Rubin Museum of Art, I became hooked on food and still life photography after a weekend spent shooting tarts and jams for a dear friend in Woodstock. In 2010, I made the switch from photographing works of art to food and objects, and started my own photo studio in New York City.
My clients include Food & Wine Magazine, Rodale and HarperCollins Publishing, the Food Network and Whole Foods Markets. I am represented by Big Leo Productions.
