In feng shui, colors can be used with intention and purpose to welcome positive energy into our spaces. White invites the qualities of cleanliness, purity, and clarity. It’s also connected to the metal element, in the five element system. Metal element is the energy of joy, completion, and also helpful people.

The color white is the presence of all the colors of the light spectrum. It is highly reflective and white can literally brighten up and expand a space visually and energetically.

White also is a color that can show dust or debris easily. For instance, you are more careful with a white chair than with a dark colored one. Therefore, this color can teach us mindfulness of our environment.

The best part about white is that the color works in all types of spaces and styles. White is a versatile and timeless color. Here are some helpful feng shui tips to use white to decorate your home.

The kitchen is a wonderful place to utilize the color white. You can bring in white with the built-in parts of the kitchen such as cabinetry, countertops, and tile. Another room where white works well is the bathroom. The bathroom is connected to the ritual of cleansing and purification, and white goes hand-in-hand with that sentiment. There’s a reason why most bath fixtures like tubs, sinks, and toilets are white. But, the whole bathroom doesn’t need to be white. You can bring in complementary colors with tile and accessories.

Sometimes white gets a bad rap for paint colors. If you think white walls are boring, think again! There are many shades of white ranging from warmer to cooler and neutrals.

It’s actually a prudent choice to use white paint for a room with limited natural light. White paint on the walls and ceiling will definitely brighten and expand the space. White is highly reflective, which bring more light into a space (lots of light = good feng shui).

White walls also create flexibility in your home so you can change out the accessories with different color palettes.

Pointed crystals are especially effective, as they can really direct your intention. Before you place the crystal, hold it and visualize that the quartz will purify and bless the contents of the refrigerator.

Fresh flowers are always a special way to decorate your home. Flowers bring forth joy and help to unstick any stagnant qi (life force energy). They bring in nature and connect us to the seasons. Flowers also remind us to cherish the present moment with teachings of impermanence.

Some of our favorite white blooms include:

    • White daffodils in the spring, symbolizing new beginnings.
    • White roses in the summer to soothe the heart.
    • White chrysanthemums in the autumn, inviting truth and clarity.
    • White plum blossoms in the winter, to remind us that hope and beauty always exists.

Be sure to regularly offer clean and fresh water, as you would do for a human guest. Also be sure to dispose of the flowers when they are expired.
