Find a Veterinarian to Treat Your Exotic Pet in Wisconsin

If you think you don't need to take your pet rabbit, ferret, monitor lizard, or other exotic pet to the vet just because you don't vaccinate them then you're wrong. Even if the kind of pet you have doesn't require vaccines they should still get at least an annual check-up with an exotics vet. Exotics are very good at hiding their illnesses until they just can't cover it up any longer, therefore it is very important to catch diseases early on and before your pet starts showing symptoms.

But why don't all vets see all kinds of pets?

Not every vet will see exotic pets because an exotics vet has had extra training and has extra equipment to enable them to treat multiple species. All vets are legally allowed to treat all kinds of animals but not all of them are comfortable doing so. Reptiles and other animals are very different than cats and dogs and not every vet knows what drugs are safe to use or how to handle them.

If you can't find the right exotics vet for you in Wisconsin, consider checking in a neighboring state. And even if you still aren't convinced you'll ever take your pet in for regular check-ups, it's a good idea to know where you'll go if case you have an emergency or there is a natural disaster.
