Fur Steering Wheel Cover - Materials & Cutting Directions
This cover is for a standard 15" steering wheel.
- Plush Felt (Craft Fur) - One strip cut 5" wide by 42" long. Cut the 42" in the direction of the fur which has a bit of stretch or gives. Beware of any fur that has too much stretch. This project was tested with fur that a 2" piece stretched to 3" at the maximum. You may want to buy extra to make matching Fuzzy Dice
- 2 pieces of 1/4" wide elastic cut 20 1/2" long
- Sewing machine
- Matching Thread... (contrasting is used in the photos for visibility)
Word Of Caution! Be sure there is a snug fit to this cover. Do not drive the vehicle with the coverslipping around the steering wheel!Continue to 2 of 6 below.

Seam the FurWith wrong sides together, using a 1/2" seam allowance, seam the 5" edge.Continue to 3 of 6 below.

Tack the ElasticMeasure in 1/4", over lap and tack the elastic at the seam.Continue to 4 of 6 below.

Divide the Elastic and FurFind the half way point of the fur and of the elastic and tack the elastic at the half way point on the fur, 1/4" in from the edge, the same way you did at the seam.Continue to 5 of 6 below.

Enclose the ElasticFold the fur over the elastic and zig zag the raw edge of the fur to the body of the cover, keeping the elastic in the casing, by stretching it as you sew and not catching the elastic in the zig zag stitches.Continue to 6 of 6 below.

Repeat for the Other SideRepeat for the other side of the cover.
