French Dressing Two Ways

These French dressing recipes include a tomato-based dressing made with chili sauce, paprika, lemon juice, and garlic, and a basic oil and vinegar French dressing. They are both very easy recipes with loads of flavor. Add some prepared horseradish if you like a spicy dressing. 

What You'll Need

  • Tomato Based French Dressing
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • dash ground cayenne
  • 1/3 cup chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 or 3 teaspoons horseradish, if desired
  • Basic Oil and Vinegar French Dressing
  • 1/3 cup vinegar or fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 1 /2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoons ground mustard powder
  • dash cayenne, optional

How to Make It

Tomato Based French Dressing

In the blender or a large jar with a lid, combine all of the ingredients: 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1 1/2 cups of olive oil, the garlic cloves, 2 teaspoons of salt, 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon ground mustard, a dash of cayenne pepper, chili sauce, paprika, and horseradish, if using. Process in the blender or shake well until blended. Makes 2 1/2 cups.

Basic French Dressing

In the blender or a large jar with a lid, combine the 1/3 cup of lemon juice or vinegar, 1 cup of olive oil, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, 3/4 teaspoon ground mustard, and a dash of cayenne pepper, if using. Process in the blender or shake until well blended. Makes 1 1/2 cups.
