This smoothie is the number one reason I freeze plums when they're in season. And when I do, I halve and pit the plums, then cut them into wedges or chunks and freeze them with their skins on (see How to Freeze Plums for details) - the peels had great color and tart flavor to the smoothie.

By the way, fresh plums are perfectly fine here, but frozen plums thicken things up.

What You'll Need

  • plum (ripe fresh or frozen, pitted but not peeled)
  • 1/2 cup orange (or other fruit juice)
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (or 1 banana)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (grated fresh)

How to Make It

Put all of the ingredients in a blender and whirl until smooth. Let the blender run long enough so the mixture is truly smooth—this is especially important when using frozen plums, you need to give them a chance to get whirled up by that blade!

Pour into a glass and enjoy.
