Spiral sliced hams are one of the best inventions in the culinary world. These luscious hams are pre-sliced, which means they are so easy to carve and serve. But they can dry out when cooked unless you take certain precautions. Use this method and your ham will always be succulent and moist.

These hams are perfect for Easter and Christmas celebrations. They usually come with their own glaze packet, but some prefer to make their own glaze that is rich in brown sugar, garlic, and mustard. This glaze complements the salty sweet flavor of ham perfectly.

Serve this ham with scalloped potatoes, a gelatin salad, some steamed green beans, and the best dinner rolls you can make. And when the meal is over, refrigerate the ham promptly. It can be kept in the fridge up to 3 days. After that time, portion the ham into freezer containers and freeze up to 6 months.

Then use the leftovers in these fabulous leftover ham recipes!

What You'll Need

  • 1 6- to 7-pound ham (fully cooked, spiral sliced)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves (ground)

How to Make It

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Place the ham in a heavy roasting pan, cut side down. Cover the ham snugly with heavy duty foil.
  2. Roast the ham for 10 to 14 minutes per pound. For a 6 pound ham, that is about 60 to 84 minutes. The ham should be at least 145°F when tested with a reliable meat thermometer.
  3. While the ham is in the oven, in a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, and cloves and mix well.
  1. Remove the ham from the oven and carefully remove the foil. Turn the oven to 400°F.
  2. Spoon and spread glaze on the ham; be careful, because the ham is hot! Use the back of a spoon to spread the glaze.
  3. Return the ham to oven to roast for another 10 to 20 minutes or until the ham is glazed. Serve immediately.
