We purchased the Green Gobbler 20 Percent Omri Listed Horticulture Vinegar Weed Killer so our reviewer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

Weeds are the absolute bane of my garden, but so many common weed killers have chemicals that I don’t want around my family or my plants. As a vegetable grower, it’s important to me that the products I use in my garden don’t unintentionally contaminate my produce or hurt my children, which is why I always opt for an all-natural alternative first. I tried the Green Gobbler 20 Percent Omri Listed Horticulture Vinegar Weed Killer to see if this all-natural weed killer would be an effective alternative to chemicals.

The weed killer came in a 1-gallon jug and included a spray applicator and a contact sheet for the company. You don’t need to mix or dilute anything—just attach the included sprayer and get to work.

Using the spray applicator was a little bit tricky, and it didn’t always work very well. It tended to leak from near the handheld trigger. Because the product is non-corrosive, I wasn’t worried about it contacting my skin, but it was easier to keep things neat and tidy when I moved it to a smaller spray bottle.

For more concentrated use, consider pouring a small amount directly from the jug or another cup onto your weed. There is always the risk of some overspray from a handheld sprayer. With a 20 percent acetic acid solution, this can mean that your desired plants are killed as well.

If you need to use the Green Gobbler Organic Vinegar Weed Killer on a larger area, you can transfer it to a larger sprayer of your preference. A pump sprayer would make it a little bit easier to distribute over your space.

The top of the jug does include a child-safe lock. While the ingredients are not harsh toxic chemicals, it is still best to keep everything out of reach of children. This is especially true if you leave the sprayer in when not in use. When I stored the Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer, I did put the child-proof cap back on to be safe.

Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer advertises that your weeds will be gone in 24 hours. I applied the product in the early afternoon, and by the following evening, my weeds were completely brown. I still had to pull them up by the roots, but they did come up easily.

Once I used the weed treatment, I did not see the weeds return to my mulch beds even weeks after application. The same was true growing in the cracks on my driveway. I did pull the weeds after the Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer killed the plants themselves. This was an important step to make sure that they didn’t come back.

One tip is to apply the Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer on a rain-free, sunny day. If you spray it over your weeds and it rains shortly after, the product will be less effective and could even wash away completely before it has a chance to really target your weeds.

The overall cost of the Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer is very good (it retails around $25), considering how much space it can cover. I expect to be able to use the 1-gallon jug for multiple seasons. Because it kills all plants indiscriminately, it’s important to use it sparingly around plants that you want to protect. This cuts down on the overall use and will extend the amount of coverage you can get from a single jug.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients cause the grass or weeds to die?

Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer is made of 20 percent acetic acid, a high-strength vinegar. Household vinegar is often used as a weed killer. This formula is four times stronger, so it kills even more effectively and quicker.

How much space will 1-gallon cover?

I used the Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer on small patches of weeds and grass. With one application, I used less than a liter of the product overall.

What plants will this kill?

The Green Gobbler Vinegar Weed Killer does not discriminate and will destroy any plants that it comes into contact with. I used it on grass and weeds in my mulch beds and driveway

The biggest determining factor of how well it worked for me was the actual size of the weed rather than the type of plant. Weeds that were larger with stronger roots took a couple of applications. I did make sure to pull weeds shortly after they died. While chemical treatments are very good at getting all the way to the roots of weeds, natural alternatives are not usually as effective.

Do I need special equipment to use this weed killer?

No, the bottle includes a sprayer that fits right into the top of the jug. You can transfer some of the product to a smaller spray bottle if that is easier for you to use.

Green Gobbler 20% Omri Listed Horticulture Vinegar Weed Killer vs. The Competition

If you’re set on all-natural weed control, the ECO Garden Pro Organic Vinegar Weed Killer is another popular option. It is 8 percent acetic acid and includes salt to target plants as well. It does not include a sprayer, but since I prefer to transfer the solution to a smaller handheld bottle anyway, this isn’t a big deal for my use. It retails for around $35.

For chemical treatment, Roundup Extended Control Weed and Grass Killer is a go-to product. It is rainproof within ten minutes and promises to work for four months. Just make sure that you are okay putting potentially toxic chemicals on your lawn or surfaces. It is very effective but may not be the best choice for those with kids, pets, or edible plants. It retails for around $31.
