Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth
Colors of the Wind, the title song of Disney's Pocahontas, is the perfect companion to Earth Day, celebrated every year on April 22nd. In honor of Earth Day, Hasbro sent over one of their Disney Princess Pocahontas dolls for review. See the box opening video here! You've seen an example of another doll in the... Royal Shimmer series in a past review, where I talked about Royal Shimmer Belle.
Pocahontas is one of the lesser produced Disney Princess figures/dolls. Hasbro's re-imagining of Pocahontas looks great! While she has a cartoon kind of vibe to her facial design, her eyes have a thoughtful curiosity to them, which is very Pocahontas like. Her overall look, even with the shimmery elements, has a very grounded feeling to it. Fans of this often forgotten Disney Princess will love this release!

Disney's Pocahontas Was Released in 1995
You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew
The real life story of Pocahontas is drastically different from Disney's romanticized version and interesting to look into when you have a moment free. Disney's Pocahontas is a story about a teenage native american princess on the verge of becoming an adult. When she meets John Smith, an explorer who explores for... the sake of adventure and not fame, her life changes. Similar to Disney's Tarzan, she learns of a bigger world. A pivotal theme of the movie is understanding. Understanding others. Not judging based on look or background.
Pocahontas is an important character to have in this series of dolls, because there's not a lot variety when it comes to Disney Princesses. Pocahontas has a nice olive/tan skin tone. Her eyes are large and brown and she has well placed eye brows. Her lips are a glossy mauve color. She has a longer face than Belle, it seems, which fits Pocahontas really well. Her smooth cheek bones, long nose and pointy chin make her stand out.

Such Long Hair!
The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends
Pocahontas has long black hair with a side part. It goes to her knees, at least and is cut evenly. She's well rooted. Her hair is a bit oily to the touch, but is easy to style. It looks great when paired with Pocahontas' long face and features.

Pocahontas' Iconic Style Is Upgraded in This Release
For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind
Her usual outfit of natural browns and golden hues is decked out in shimmery sparkles. I love the one shoulder look and asymmetrical skirt with fringe details. Mixed in with the natural browns tones is a cool turquoise blue. It's seen in her plastic necklace and belt. Her dress is removable, so if you tire of her wearing this, you can easily dress... her in something better.
Her shoes are knee length brown boots, made of plastic. They look pretty awesome, though I wish they had changed her feet mold a bit, so it didn't look like she was standing on her tip toes all the time. (I understand that all the other princesses could easily wear heels, so making a body just for dolls that traditionally wear flats wouldn't be cost effective, but it would be nice!)
