Microfiber causes friction with pajamas
Finding sheets that stay soft, pill-free, and smooth wash after wash can be a challenge. We’re not sure about you, but we’ve certainly brought home our fair share of new sheet sets only to be disappointed by their stiff feel and wrinkled appearance. The Home Dynamix Micro Lush Microfiber Sheet Set promises an ultra-soft feel and superior wrinkle resistance. Rather than trust the manufacturer’s promises, though, we wanted to judge the sheets’ performance for ourselves, so we picked up a set and got to sleeping. Keep reading for our full review of the wrinkle-resistant sheets.
Material, Weave, and Texture: 100 percent polyester microfiber
Home Dynamix’s sheets are made of 100 percent polyester microfiber. Polyester is a synthetic, man-made material which helps keep the price tag low but may not be the best choice for households who prefer more natural or sustainable materials.
The sateen weave is exceptionally soft and feels almost velvet-like.
Polyester sheets are known for their smoothness and durability and in Home Dynamix’s case, the polyester is finely brushed to create an ultra-soft texture. The sheets also benefit from a sateen weave, meaning the individual fibers are tightly woven together to create a durable, smooth, and lustrously soft feel. While Home Dynamix doesn’t list a thread count for their Micro Lush sheets, the sateen weave is exceptionally soft and feels almost velvet-like. We found they felt even softer after the first laundering, too.
The sheets’ polyester construction also helps them lay smoothly over a mattress and avoid wrinkles so you can make a beautiful bed without breaking out the ironing board. After a week of sleeping on them, we found the sheets felt buttery soft and stayed free of wrinkles whether straight out of the dryer or after a night of slumber.
We slept on the sheets during late summer and found we woke sweatier than usual.
We did find two minor pitfalls, with the sheets, however. First, polyester sheets aren’t as breathable as cotton sets, so the Home Dynamix set traps a lot of warmth. We slept on the sheets during late summer and found we woke sweatier than usual. Additionally, night after night, we found ourselves feeling “stuck” to the sheets. They proved smooth against our skin, but tended to cause friction against the polyester blend fabric of our pajamas. For sleepers who toss and turn, like us, this can get quite uncomfortable as it limits your movement. Silkier pajamas may fare better, but if you’re a fan of flannel or fleece pajamas in the cooler months, be prepared for some potential friction and static electricity.
Care: Machine washable
These sheets are machine washable and easy to clean. We followed the manufacturer’s directions and washed them in cool water before tumble drying them on a low heat setting. As advertised, the sheets were wrinkle-free when we pulled them out of the dryer. Even better, they also seemed softer after the first wash and we didn’t notice any pilling, fraying, or loose threads on subsequent washes.
If you don’t have time to fold your sheets or make your bed right away (hey, it happens), the set will wrinkle slightly, but it’s not nearly as bad as other sheet sets we’ve seen straight out of the dryer. If you just have to have super smooth linens, a warm iron will do the trick to smooth everything back out, but these sheets are rather easy to smooth by hand as well.
They also seemed softer after the first wash and we didn’t notice any pilling, fraying, or loose threads on subsequent washes.
Price: Luxe feel for a budget price
Home Dynamix’s Micro Lush Microfiber Sheet Set is one of the most affordable sheet sets we’ve come across with prices ranging from $15 to $25 depending on size. Despite being made from thin microfiber polyester, they feel luxuriously smooth and provide ample warmth.
Of course, when it comes to sheets, more expensive sets—which are made from more expensive materials like cotton and percale—may do a better job of keeping warm sleepers cool. If you have a tight budget or don’t sleep warm, however, you can’t beat the texture or price of this set. It’s an especially great option for spaces that don’t see a ton of use, like guest rooms and vacation homes.
Competition: Plenty of wrinkle-free options
Mellanni Bed Sheet Set: Mellanni’s sheets are similarly priced at $25 for a queen-size set. They’re also made from 100 percent polyester that promises silky softness and zero wrinkles. They have a slight edge over Home Dynamix’s set thanks to plentiful color and pattern choices (there’s several dozen to choose from) and the brand’s lifetime money-back guarantee.
Zen Bamboo Luxury Bed Sheets: If you just can’t commit to polyester sheets and prefer something more eco-friendly, you’ll want to check out the Zen Bamboo sheet set. Made from 40 percent bamboo-derived rayon and 60 percent polyester, they help reduce your carbon footprint while still offering the durability, softness, and wrinkle resistance that polyester is known for. They’re a bit more expensive than the Home Dynamix Set, but not by much. A queen-size set will cost you about $35.
