As 2023 approaches, we welcome new home trends that are on the rise for the upcoming year—they bring excitement, change, and opportunity. New home trends push homeowners to step outside their comfort zones and encourage them to experiment with versatile decor pieces that they may have never considered before. It's an opportunity to play with different color palettes, materials, and aesthetics to see what works and what doesn't.
HomeGoods tapped in with their style experts and they've predicted three home trends that will make a statement in any home. From cozy blues to glamorous velvet, these popular trends will be the perfect way to refresh any space in time for an exciting and promising new year.
- Jenny Reimold is an Instagram lifestyle influencer.
- Ursula Carmona is a DIY expert and blogger at Home Made by Carmona.
- Beth Diana Smith is an interior designer and is the CEO of Beth Diana Smith Interior Design.
Modern Coastal
In the past year, we've seen coastal grandmother take over home interiors with its cozy aesthetic of adding intimate details like fresh flowers and rustic textiles. Fast forward a few months later and we're still seeing its long-term impact with upcoming trends—say hello to modern coastal. “On the heels of 'coastal grandmother,' blue will be a trending hue as we head into the new year," says Jenny Reimold. "Think a little less shabby chic and a bit more modern coastal. Tranquil blues, mixed with neutrals and brass accents, will be prominently featured in interior design as we head into spring.”
When trying to achieve the modern coastal look, begin with basic pieces like pillows, rugs, and table books—this way, you can easily swap out what you already have to bring in blue hues into your space without moving too much around.

Micro-Luxury
Ring in the new year with a glamorous and chic aesthetic that'll elevate your space to look dazzling and charismatic. “Micro-Luxury allows even those of us on a budget to feel like we are living in the lap of luxury in our decor," says Ursula Carmona. "High-end spaces without needing the pocketbook or large spaces to back it. It's plush, rich, and oh-so-glamorous. HomeGoods is a great way to achieve it with their unique finds for less.”
Think of metallic accents with rich and plush materials like velvet, to bring extra texture into your home. Just be sure to coordinate your color palettes with the materials you decide to use because you don't want to overwhelm your space and make it look cluttered.

Saturated Colors
It's time to embrace bolder colors for the upcoming year as more neutrals become more saturated—make an eye-catching statement in your space with classic home pieces. “We have been seeing more saturated colors, and in 2023 I‘m expecting to see this heavily, especially in reds, pinks, and mauves. Which isn’t surprising to see these earth tones being taken up a notch from muted to bold," says Beth Diana Smith.
Don't be afraid to mix and match colors when achieving a saturated aesthetic. Play with different pieces and welcome the color contrast rather than shying away from it. Especially if your current space has a neutral look, consider changing some items out to bring in a brighter and more energetic appearance.
