House Tour: Ultra Modern Living in Greenwich Village

Ultra modern living room by ASH NYC

Greenwich village is one of New York's most historic and iconic neighborhoods. The home of New York University and The New School, the "Village," as it is affectionately known was the cradle of the Beat movement as well as several counterculture movements of the 60s. Today, the Village is one of Manhattan's most exclusive neighborhoods, the perfect place for a home that epitomizes modern design and urban luxury, all in one amazing home.

If modern luxury is the style you're looking for, it would be hard to find better designers to suit your tastes than ASH NYC. A new form of hybrid design studio, ASH NYC is a company made of equal parts residential design, home staging and real estate development. For this project, their design team was tasked with creating the perfect modern abode for city living. The result is a high-end environment with gorgeous furniture, engaging art and a quiet, refined aesthetic.

The living room is a perfect example of the style that typifies this Manhattan home. A light, neutral color palette begins with white walls and drapery accented by a gray rug covering the majority of the floor. The combination makes for a blank canvas effect, setting the stage for the design while lending a serene, almost futuristic sense to the entire room. The pair of white side chairs near the window continues the meditative color palette. Wood flooring peeks out from the edges of the rug, warming the neutral space with natural color. Additional wood accents in the paired side chair and lounge echo the floors while pops of black in the lighting, coffee table accessories and geometric wall art compete the color palette.

Dining Room & Parlor With Modern Art

Entryway with modern art from ASH NYC

Just away from the living room, the dining room continues the white and black color palette, along with the pops of natural wood tone for warmth. A series of soft, gray dining tables surround the table, ready for intimate family dinners or entertaining guests. Above the table, an ultra-modern chandelier completes the aesthetic.

The wood floors continue into the parlor, where stairs await giving access to the upstairs. Here the color roles are reversed and the warm wood tones of the floor take center stage, reflected in the mid-century console as well as in the wood of the stairs themselves. Art is a major influence in this home, and this space shows off wonderfully how the connections between the artwork in the parlor and dining room help to create a cohesive look that flows throughout the home. On this floor, the art is exclusively black and white, ranging from hard-lined geometrics to large, calligraphic brush strokes. Taken together they create a minimalist, meditative effect that only enhances the fashion-forward aesthetic of the home.

    Bathroom With Neutral Wood Details

Modern bathroom with his and hers vanities from ASH NYC

The bathroom shows a strong balance of the home's warm and cool colors of choice. The wood floor has been stained gray, which allows the brown tones of the twin vanities to stand out even more. Luxury means never having to wait for a sink, making his and hers vanities a must for any upscale, Greenwich Village abode. The sleek, streamlined tub helps the powder room to fit perfectly with the futuristic look and feel of the rest of the home. And the bay windows are the icing on the cake, flooding the space with soft, diffused light.

    Modern Black and White Bedroom

Modern black and white bedroom with warm wood colors by ASH NYC

The bedroom resumes the black and white color palette that has defined the rest of the home. Black and white art adorns the walls accenting the space and echoing the tones of the side chairs, the metallic bases of which work with the wood to warm the space. In addition to the seating area situated at the foot of the bed, a third sculptural seat in wood sits towards the edge of the room.

    Den With Large Bay Windows

Den with large bay windows by ASH NYC

The final space of this home is a charming, roomy den. Clearly comfort is the focus in this room, as the large, plush sofa and deep, high-backed side chairs invite thoughts of long afternoons spent in the sun. A black, marble table on brass hairpin legs add a hint of pattern to the space while the massive windows offer a commanding view of the city.
