How You Want to Celebrate Valentine's Day

The Spruce / Lara Antal

As February 14th quickly approaches, many of us are trying to figure out the best way to show our loved ones how we care about them. Valentine’s Day can be celebrated in so many different ways, depending on the couple.

While some prefer to go all out with their festivities, others desire to express their feelings with unusual or subtle gestures. Even if you aren’t the biggest fan of the day, there are still plenty of opportunities for you to show your devotion to each other while creating unforgettable memories.

Everyone has their preferences, but our zodiac signs can give us some insight into our personalities and those of our partners. Check out your zodiac sign and that of your partner below for some inspiration for how to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Aquarius: Doing Something Out Of The Ordinary

Truth be told, you don’t enjoy all the pressure placed on one day to display your love for someone, especially when you already do that on other days. You would prefer to do something outside the realm of typical Valentine’s Day dates. You would rather spend the day with your partner by helping out someone who needs it, gathering your friends for an “anti-valentine’s day” party, or volunteering your time to a cause you’re invested in.

    Pisces: Creating Something Together

You are a huge romantic at heart, and Valentine’s Day tends to bring out those emotions in full force. You appreciate any gestures made, but you would be head over heels if you could spend Valentine’s Day creating something with your loved one. Making something artistic that expresses how you feel, would be a perfect fit. Still, you’ll be happy with anything as long as it’s establishing a connection between the two of you!

    Aries: Adventuring Together

You are pretty open to doing anything, but you really hope the day will be remarkable. If you’re able, you want to do something that involves getting up and moving around and exploring together. Going hiking on a quiet trail that not too many people know about is something you would love. Ending with a romantic picnic in a secret location would make the day even sweeter!

    Taurus: Treating Yourselves

You have a hard time letting yourself buy or invest in things you don’t need, but Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to do just that. You want to shower your partner with attention and gifts, and you hope they will do the same. A multi-course candlelit dinner with perfect mood music and even some fine wine is the kind of immersive experience you’re hoping for.

Gemini: Getting To Know Each Other Better

You don’t care what the plan is; you just want the day to bring you two closer together. You don’t want to be bored, and you want to create distinct memories that allow you to form a stronger bond. Having an evening where you can talk about all the things that interest you and learn new things about your partner in a fun way would be ideal. Breaking out a fun game that focuses on asking questions to each other would be perfect!

    Cancer: Recreating A Wonderful Memory

This is one of your favorite days of the year, but you don’t want to come on too strong. You don’t ask for much, you just really want your partner’s attention. You would love to reflect on your memories together and find a way to commemorate them. Recreating your first date would leave you swooning!

    Leo: Showing Each Other Off

You want a reason to show off, and Valentine’s Day is a perfect way to go about that. You would love nothing more than to go to someplace with a ton of people and show how proud you are of each other to everyone in sight. Not able to go out on the town? Dressing to the nines and taking cute couple photos together is a fun way for you to tell the world how crazy you are about your partner!

Virgo: Letting Go of Your Control

Virgos are almost always in the driver’s seat, and you don’t really mind. However, you would prefer for your Valentine’s Day to be planned out by someone besides yourself. You want to be pampered and taken care of the way you typically do for everyone else 364 days a year. If your partner can plan an entire day around your favorite thing, it will mean the world to you to know they’ve been actually paying attention.

    Libra: Sticking With The Classics

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, you love the classics. A romantic dinner with flowers and spending quality time together is a perfect date for you. You don’t care if others think it’s cheesy; you say bring on the roses, sappy love songs, and heart-shaped jewelry. You’ll cherish anything if it comes from the person you’re crazy about and shows how much they care about you!

    Scorpio: Spending Quality Time

Scorpios are certainly passionate, but they don’t feel the need to celebrate Valentine’s Day just for the heck of it. You want to do something personal but also out of the ordinary. Booking a cozy Air Bnb for some quality time together would be a fantastic way to spend the day for you. On a smaller scale, if your partner goes out of their way to give you something handmade or with a distinct meaning to you instead of something generic, you’ll be over the moon.

    Sagittarius: Discovering Something New Together

You want to connect over the things you love and discuss them thoroughly without a time constraint. A road trip to check out a place you haven’t been, or even just exploring different parts of the city you live in but have never bothered to visit can be a fun, intimate experience to share with your person.

    Capricorn: Cooking A Meal Together

You enjoy something simple, and you hate doing frivolous things for no real reason. Instead of a typical Valentine’s date, you would prefer to prepare a meal together, involving both of your favorite foods. It not only gives you that quality time but is a practical option that makes you feel you’ve accomplished something.
