IKEA is launching a new home fragrance range inspired by nature and wellbeing of staying at home. The range will include eight spotlighted candles, two of which will be signature scents created by long-term collaborator Ilse Crawford, which will be rooted in wood to reflect the forests of Sweden.

Wellbeing is the core focus of this collection and collaboration. IKEA promises to deliver a sensory atmosphere through its fragrances by elevating the feeling of a space and transforming moods. The newly created fragrances capture the essence of different home activities and brings back the memory of how a specific situation may feel through smell. Scents often allow us to feel energized, focused, serene, and most importantly, have the ability to connect us to our homes.

“We are excited to offer our customers the opportunity to embrace and to continue to personalize their spaces in an affordable way which focuses on wellbeing first,” Karin Gustavsson, Range and Product Design Leader at IKEA of Sweden AB, said in a press release. “Home accessories are at the heart of having a space that feels more personalized, and with new candles we want to inspire consumers to feel more comfort and connected to home” she adds.

The eight fragrances can be experienced through various products, which gives a range on what's suitable to one's home and space. From tea lights and scented hangers, to scented candles in glass and ceramic containers, they differ in burning cycles of 12 to 60 hours and are available in varying sizes. The jars were also created in consideration of longevity, so they can be repurposed in unique ways afterwards.

Ilse Crawford designed the glass and ceramic containers for the new range. “The containers are elemental objects that we can use every day. They are beautiful and affordable. They are special because of their materiality size and tactility. We hope that people want to have them because they are attractive, familiar, and can blend easily with what they have. Above all they can be reused later— creating a ‘second life’ beyond its first use—as a penholder, food container, bathroom storage etc”, Crawford said in a press release.

Of the eight fragrances, two were designed in collaboration with Ilse Crawford. Both scents are rooted in wood which collectively coordinates with IKEA's Scandinavian roots and initial material choice being wood, as well. “There is something that is forever grounding in nature. We wanted to bring the instinctive memory of nature—particularly of trees and forests—back into our homes, through scents—particularly for those of us around the world who live in dense cities and don’t have immediate access to the outdoors”, adds Ilse Crawford.

The new candles and fragrances will launch at IKEA stores worldwide starting in April 2022.
