My love for Frank Lloyd Wright—America’s greatest architect, in my humble opinion—knows no bounds. While I daydream over Wright’s architecture and instantly recognizable stained glass, the chances of owning a Wright-designed piece is slim to, well, let’s go with none. That is, until custom furniture company Inside Weather launched their Usonia collection in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.

While Wright may not have touched the Inside Weather pieces, their shapes, materials, patterns, and overall ethos were influenced by his prolific Usonia period—and that was close enough for a history buff like me. The Usonia collection includes clean-lined pieces that are a breeze to fit into any modern interior.

I opted for the Hanna Side Table, aptly named after Wright’s 1936-built Hanna House. The hexagonal table is based on a model designed specifically for the “Honeycomb House,” a nickname for the Hanna House. The best part? The table is totally customizable, and you can choose whatever colors suit your style.

The silhouette is simple yet unexpected. With the various customization options, you can create the side table that best fits your space and style, too.

The Usonia collection includes 18 vivid original Frank Lloyd Wright patterns discovered in his archive, reimagined in fresh, modern colorways. There are two wood finishes to choose from: dark espresso or a lighter latte, which is what I chose. I was then able to choose a surface design for the top of the table. My advice is to take your time with this and play around with all of the options.

Once you've finished customizing, voila! You now have a Wright-approved side table to hold all the must-haves within easy reach of your couch, bedside, or anywhere else.

Since sustainability in furniture design is important to me, I can feel good about my purchase too—the Hanna Side Table is made with the environment in mind. Made of plywood and ash veneer, the table is topped with a triple coat of a UV-cured clear, matte, eco-solvent finish. Plus, like all Inside Weather purchases, with each order, a tree is planted via the National Forest Foundation.

There’s also no worry about being overly precious with the table like you would an original Wright piece. The surface is glare-free as well as scuff- and UV-resistant. Any accidental spills of mine can be wiped away as if nothing happened.  Best of all, I found solo assembly quick and easy too. Everything I needed was included in the flat-pack box—no need for your toolbox or an extra set of hands.

With the Hanna Side Table, I feel like I have a little piece of architectural history in my home, even if it’s just an homage. I like to think Wright would approve.
